Troops Battle 10-Foot Marijuana Plants In Afghanistan
Troops battle 10-foot marijuana plants Fri Oct 13, 8:48 AM ET

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canadian troops fighting Taliban militants in Afghanistan have stumbled across an unexpected and potent enemy -- almost impenetrable forests of 10-feet-high marijuana plants.

General Rick Hillier, chief of the Canadian defense staff, said on Thursday that Taliban fighters were using the forests as cover. In response, the crew of at least one armored car had camouflaged their vehicle with marijuana.

"The challenge is that marijuana plants absorb energy, heat very readily. It's very difficult to penetrate with thermal devices ... and as a result you really have to be careful that the Taliban don't dodge in and out of those marijuana forests," he said in a speech in Ottawa.

"We tried burning them with white phosphorous -- it didn't work. We tried burning them with diesel -- it didn't work. The plants are so full of water right now ... that we simply couldn't burn them," he said.

2. You can't convince me this story isn't a "plant"
*snark*
But in reality, they lower the standards for enlistment, then advertise 10'ft tall marijuana plants....I can see a line of junkies forming to "serve" already.

28. Junkies?
I know a lot of marijuana smokers and they are NOT junkies. They are everyday, responsible people who hold good jobs that they perform competently. Not one of them are "junkies" in any way. They are no different than those who drink a few beers or a glass of wine after work.

I have also known a junkie or two. Marijuana is the last thing a junkie cares about. Offering a junkie marijuana would be like offering root beer to an alcoholic.

6. It's a decorative plant as well over that way
There was a nice hedge of the shit in front of my bank and the police station. My neighbors used it as a shade tree of sorts.

The lady who lived upstairs from me used to chop up the stems (they were thick as branches), dry it, and put it in her hubble bubble with some stinky tobacco....

9. Is This Recruitment Propaganda?
I'm sure if I told certain friends of mine about 10 foot high fields of herb, they'd ask me where to enlist.

Just the term "marijuana forest" makes my eyes water.

Hey Taliban...come on out...we've got oreo cookies!!

Now there's our exit strategy...we encourage them to grow marijuana forests all over the country...they hide inside and are too stoned to fight. Problem solved.

Better living through science...

11. Duuuuuuuuuuude!!!!!
Hope my two dumbass slacker grandnephews don't hear about this. They're in their late teens or early twenties and their mother (my late sister's daughter) is tearing her hair out trying to get them motivated. All they'd have to hear is "marijuana forests" and they'd enlist on the spot. I'm gradually becoming a sort of surrogate grandpa for the little a-holes so I guess I'll have to twist their arms and gently convince them it'd be a dumb idea.

Recruits from the Vancouver, BC area increased 100% since this field was found. :D Willie Nelson probably volunteered for a USO tour over there, too!
