Republicans hewing to party lies

October 15, 2006
BY ZAY N. SMITH Sun-Times Columnist

• • House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert at speaker.house.gov:

"Democrats opposed the forming of the Department of Homeland Security. . . ."

• • Republican National Committee at www.gop.com:

"THE REPUBLICAN RECORD SINCE 9/11: PASSED THE PATRIOT ACT. CREATED THE HOMELAND SECURITY DEPARTMENT . . ."

Except that Democrats proposed the forming of the Department of Homeland Security.

And the Bush administration opposed it for nine months, then gave in and allowed its creation.

Other than that, you are being told the truth by people who respect your intelligence.

2. truth vs lies mean nothing to the GOP. "Perception Management"
is all that they adhere to. If only more of the public were keen to what Perception Management is - how it is used - it would be quick to discern empty rhetoric - and deeply cynical about those who use it to deceive the public.

5. I note that most were faux products (local or national)
guessing that they are trying to send the subtle message that the repubs are always the 'good guys' and dems 'bad guys' and if not - we will label them so... b/c we really don't think our viewers are paying close enough attention to the actually stories - so all we have to do is keep that 'impression' of good guys vs bad guys. A very subtle form of perception management - and one that demonstrates how truth means absolutely NOTHING to the GOp and their operatives.

6. Yes.
When Bush said, "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." And now, thanks to a somnolent populace, Republican election manipulation and a rubberstamp Congress (including Democrats) we're well on our way to the dictatorship he wanted.

7. Is it a lie, when you believe your own hype?

Plus, they do tell the truth. They can't keep their big racist mouths shut.

There are a few, what I'll call 'conservatives' (i.e. John Dean) who
hold what I consider admirable positions and values, but, the 'Republicans'
are a pack of blood thirsty, grasping, opportunistic, power-mad, lying, corrupt,
manipulative, deceptive, crooked, treasonous traitors.

9. Great Adlai Stevenson quote
"If the Republicans will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them."
