Someone spies you lighting a butt 100 feet away..
..and they start coughing. LOL. What is pathetic about it is that there is no way the smoke could have possibly reached them in that time period, if at all.
I've seen this happen so many times.
More people will die from their own FOOD ADDICTIONS and from the toxins in the food/water than will die from second hand smoke.

This subject is always good fodder for numerous posts here. But people really need to focus on their own addictions that do not get bad airplay (like food and the crap that is in it). Not to mention goodies like radiation, auto pollution, etc.....

22. That's just it - read the OP
The "cougher" was too far away to have **possibly** inhaled any of the smoker's smoke. It was a physical impossibility. Didn't happen. Couldn't happen. And yet there the cougher stood, making his/her point and generally being a drama queen.

But don't worry. You'll NEVER have to breathe any of my polluted air, unless you can smell it from several hundred miles away. And if you say you can, well, I'm callin' BULLSHIT.

4. People Like Controversy
At least you can light one up in some public places.

I prefer the green stuff, and you can't even spark those up in "smoking areas," since it's illegal. Even though it's probably LESS harmful than toxins in tobacco, and LESS addictive than nicotene.

I can go hours or days without some bud, but there are people in my building who must smoke a pack a day during their frequent breaks.

I have no problem with them, it's their body not mine.

own troops or you aren't fighting on my side to begin with.

Did you mean to say "If you light up in a combat zone and the enemy sees you they may shoot you because of it"?

You still have time to edit if you did.

On edit: I see you edited your initial post, but it still doesn't quite cut it. Now you took away the option of killing your fellow troops, but left as the only option that you'd be fighting with the insurgents or the enemy. Since you said 'You' directly, and I'm an american, but you then added I'd be the enemy, then you would not be fighting with Americans. I'd say you should edit it to what I recommended.

It was bad news to be the 'third man on a match' at night. Snipers would usually get the third guy who was trying to light his cigarette. Sometimes the second or the first, too.

Edited on Tue Oct-17-06 05:27 PM by ShortnFiery
a large woman came over to me as I was sitting and enjoying a smoke in a bus station (yeah, good broke times) and exclaimed, "Do you have to smoke?!?" I immediately quipped, "Do you have to be fat?"

That was nasty and mean spirited but kind of cute.

23. I am sure that type of person is faking.
I will say that I am pretty sure, though, that I am allergic to cigarette smoke. I have never been diagnosed as such but I always have trouble being in confined areas around smokers. One time I was determined to stay in this car/restaurant. I finally had to leave when I could not breathe any more and felt like I would pass out. The girl on the door actually went out with me to make sure I did not pass out. I was wheezing and it was everything I could do to even take a breath. I was fine after being out in the fresh air for a while. I went back to get my belongings and in that short time I was right back to where I had been before.

I do not believe that establishment should have made people stop smoking. I am an adult and knew where I was going. I had always had trouble breathing around cigarette smoke before but never to that degree. I have never tried anything near that scenario again. I am not against people smoking in public but I do try and avoid them. I do want to say some people, like me, do have a genuine physical problem with smoke. I know a lot of people do tend to get dramatic but do not discount everyone.

31. I'm sincerely curious.
Have you been checked for asthma, etc.? If not, then perhaps -- should you find yourself in an emergency situation like that again -- one of the inhalers asthmatics use in emergencies might be helpful. Don't know for sure, of course, but it's just a thought.

With the quality of the air, especially in and near large cities, I can't believe anyone would believe a cigarette smoker could possibly puff anything worse out than what's already there!

43. No, I have never been checked.
I am not sure I have asthma but I guess it is a possibility. I have always had a bit of trouble breathing around smoke, so much so that I would have my Mom put down the window in the middle of cold Canadian winters. The first time I ever had problems really breathing was when I was about ten. I was on a merry-go-round and I found myself slipping off. I ended up falling to the ground on my back. The next day my Mom found me a little ways from our house hunched over and breathing with great difficulty. I had never had any type of trouble like that before. We went to the doctor but they said everything was fine.

My mom is a nurse so I can only assume she would have picked up on it if I had asthma. I am not sure what I have but I do try and avoid cigarette smoke as much as I can now. At the same time, I don't try to stop others from smoking. I would rather leave a room or avoid a place than ask someone not to smoke. Perhaps I am too courteous or maybe I just do not want confrontations. Most likely it is the latter. Whatever the reason, as long as I can go to a non-smoking area of an establishment I am fine.

Oh! One thing I do remember is when I worked as a waitress in a restaurant I did develop bronchitis and the doctor said to stay away from the smoke.

At any rate, this thread is not about me and my health. I just wanted to speak up and say a lot of people do fake it but if it is close enough then once in a blue moon it might be legit. For me, I try to avoid it so there is no discomfort on the part of any party.

at the beach and then complain because I smoked in my own house. But of course she could spend hours swilling down booze in a smokey bar with no problem.

I finally told her not to come back to my house.

I used to be a very considerate smoker and then the anti-smoking nazis became such pains in the ass that I like to irritate them.
