1. Harry Reid said they didn't have the numbers, so it was useless. |
|
However, he simply IGNORED the fact that the vote (to filibuster) should have been taken, if only on principle alone.

It had popular support according to the polls and if they had made a fuss about it, Republicans would have used it against them - the "weak on terror" meme.
Unfortunately, because most Americans are so ill-informed, it would probably have worked.
As Jonathan Turley said on KO tonite:
"Americans yawned today as the bill was signed, then turned to Dancing with the Stars". :-(

5. According to Martha Radditch on ABC........ |
|
They were cowed by a poll showing 53 percent of the American people didn't mind it a bit.
Feingold wasn't cowed, though, it seems.
I sent a note to my Senator, Hillary Clinton, saying I wanted Feingold for President because I want one that leads, not cowers in the background hoping nobody will get mad.

6. Quite a few Democrats voted in favor of it. |
|
It was the usual spinelessness that has characterized Reid's tenure as Senate Majority leader. He either can't or won't enforce any party discipline and, as a result, Democrats always look like carping nellies, shaking fingers at Republican measures, but never able to focus any public attention on them.
Mostly, I fault the Democrats on just again gutlessly failing to do the right thing. Most voted the right way, but a lot of them (the usual "moderates" - Landrieu, Salazar, the Nelsons, Rockefeller) voted with the Republicans.
It was shameful.

You got that right. I was completely disgusted by the yea votes from Dems. Why exactly was this particular level of gutlessness required on this horrendous measure? Oh, I guess they want to look tough on terror. :eyes:

Who, BTW, are probably gonna attempt to take credit if we manage to get one or both houses. I've bet a cool $20 with my peeps on DLC taking unwarranted credit post 11\7 already.
Course if we lose, it will just have to be the Liberals\Bloggers\Grassroots fault.

13. No secret. Some dems were for the bill. |
|
Why is the question. Do they support torture or dictatorial powers for this administration or are they politically coward or self absorbed? Who knows? All I can say is those that voted for it are in deed, the same as the republicans.
