I met a nice white man on the bus today. And he was a Democrat!! |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-23-06 08:59 PM by cat_girl25
Excuse me for my excitement but that doesn't happen very often around here. Most of the stuffed shirts on my bus are conservatives Bush loving repukes. We were in traffic and we started talking casual stuff and then all of a sudden he asked me when was the election. I looked at him like, oh crap, I'm sitting next to a Bush supporter. Of course I shouldn't assume that, just like he assumed I was a Democrat, otherwise he wouldn't have started with the politics....so he made an assumption also. But he said he wanted to vote some republicans out of office. Of course when he said that I was smiling very big. I said good for you. We started talking about the Swift Board jerks and how John O'Neil has been after Kerry since Viet Nam, George Soros, Senator Clinton etc. etc. We couldn't stop talking politics. I told him I usually talk politics on the internet but it was nice talking politics to an actual person because most of the people I work for are republicans. He said he was outnumbered too in his position. I also told him that there may be more that are against the republicans but they don't let it be known. So I told him that was good that he doesn't try and hide his democratic ways. I was going to tell him about DU but the ride was ending. I did tell him that if I saw him again on the bus, I would sit next to him so we can talk more politics. What a nice bus ride that was. :7

It is nice to meet fun people out of the blue.
Kinda off topic, but I did that Moveon Call for Change thing tonight and had some excellent political discussions with strangers over the phone. Was fun.

I'm glad you had such a good experience!
Has he always been a dem, or a recently switched one because of all the abuses, scandals, and culture of corruption?

12. The way he was talking, I get the feeling he was always a Democrat. |
|
But he may have been like me, voted both ways in the past.

6. It is refreshing, isn't it? |
|
Even here in my tiny lil West Texas town, I encounter Democrats. In fact, more and more of them each day.

7. Another "white man" here, |
|
living in Freeperland and if you sat by me on the bus you would assume I was a Republican. There are more of us than you think. I loved your story.

8. I would tend to think most of the bus-riders around here |
|
are either apolitical or liberal.
Of course, that's just an assumption.
Though these days those people who tend to ride the bus aren't the gas guzzling asshat types, or are in a lower income bracket and know what the Republicans are about.
I hope.

9. When I was doing phone banking for Kerry in '04 |
|
A man answered the phone and I don't know any other way to describe how he sounded than to say he sounded kind of like a redneck. To my surprise he proceeded to tell me that he would indeed be voting for Kerry and that it was time to get those damn war criminals out of office.
It really put a smile on my face.

18. I just experienced a call like this while phonebanking Saturday. |
|
He was almost screaming, and after my talking points for my candidate for U.S. Congress, he said "does he support gun rights and the 2nd amendment?" I said "yes". He said "well if he does he better start gettin' the word out! I'm not happy with this Chocola guy and if your guy is for gun rights and the 2nd amendment then I'm voting for him!" I said "He is". He said "I will then". and I said "thank you", and we hung up! He sounded like Elmer Fudd, spittin' mad and everything. (I forgot to tell I was calling people from the "R" list, too....) He was a registered Republican!

Maybe that's why none of the cool people talk to me. :)
