2. It does seem unlikely. |
|
But hey, at this point two months ago most people who get paid to have opinions on these things didn't even think we'd take the house. Turnover of one chamber is still a very big deal.

3. with the moe 3-4.5% they could take the same poll 5 times in a row and get |
|
results that vary from 6-9 points but are meaningless.
dont fret the poll details. its all about getting a fair vote count or overcoming the fraud.

7. frankly, I would be most happy with just the house. here's why: |
|
Let's say we lose both the house and senate in '06. The economy will continue to screw the middle and lower classes; education will continue to suffer from unfunded mandates; IraqNam will grow into a quagmire larger than Jupiter's red spot; Iran attacks will destroy the oil economy of the world; science will continue to take huge hits from the White House and the deficit will be so large that in comparison, the grand canyon will remind people of distance between Lieberman's tiny penis and a bent over Karl Rove.
If we take the house and the senate, (shudder) we have two years to fix everything. it would be I M P O S S I B L E ! ! ! We would take the brunt of the blame in 08 and be back where we started from. Besides, with the boy king as a petulant president, it would be even harder to accomplish anything of note. The congress leading into 08 would make this year's congress actually productive and efficient - when it was anything but.
Let's say we lose the senate, but win the house.
We have a lock on preventing the worst excesses of Team Bush. We control the spending and therefore, can start attacking the excesses of the military-industrial-K Street- White House evil cabal that exists without any supervision. We can start investigating war crimes, torture, civil rights violations, and revisit the Patriot Act.
Best of all, the predictably bad situation economically, globally, socially and more, WON'T BE OUR FAULT. the boy king will still have been president for those years. The Senate would still be filled with mindless bloviating sycophants. The house will be able to pass real reform legislation and bitch at the Senate for refusing to deal with it. We can tread water for 2 yrs, protecting what is left of our formerly great country, and get ready to take over the executive, the entire legislative and start working on repairing the judiciary.

27. What about judicial nominees? Another SCOTUS vacancy could open up |
|
Stevens is eighty six years old. Ginsberg, Breyer, Souter and Kennedy are all in the seventies. It's possible that another Justice may need to retire or even pass away before January, 2009. As long as the GOP controls the Senate, Smirk will be able to nominate any young wingnut the religious right wants to inflict on us.
Ditto with ambassadors and executives - - Smirk could continue to appoint incompetent cronies to head up the Department of Homeland Security, etc. and a GOP controlled Senate would not stop him.
A GOP Senate would continue to kill any sensible legislation in committee. They would vote against sensible legislation coming out of the House, saving Smirk the trouble of having to veto them.
The Senate would become the battleground that the media focused on. McCain would get even more glowing press every time he did another faux stand against the Smirk admin.

My guess is those R's who won in squeakers, and those who will be up for reelection in 2008, will see the writing on the wall and moderate their votes accordingly.

Unless you hold a gun to their head. Come to think of it, some could use that kind of treatment, too.

Work like Hell and organize...
I don't believe in jinxs but we jinxed ourselves by "measuring the drapes" and chimpeachment parties...
The House is gerrymandered and our federal system favors smaller states that more likely than not happen to be red...
I read something interesting... The GOPU has held the House and Senate the last four elections despite the Dems winning a greater percentage of the national vote in three of them... This can be attributed to gerrymandering and Diane Feinstein can win reelection by one million votes and Corker can win election by 10,000 votes but it still counts the same...

28. Ummm..... Southern bigot much? |
|
The mid-West has this problem MUCH more than the Southern states. I'm so tired of the bias and bigotry against Southerners on this board.
This race isn't about race: it's about the fact that we have had a Republican machine in this state while the Democrats ignore us (Kerry never even visited Tennessee - except for a closed veterans meeting - no public rallies, nothing).
Build up the infrastructure and you'll see results.
There is NOTHING to counteract the Republican Noise Machine in this state until the piddly amount the DNC, DCCC et al hands us a couple of weeks before an election, which isn't enough.

|
Edited on Wed Oct-25-06 09:44 AM by Clark2008
I'm sorry, but there are racists EVERYWHERE - it's not confined to one state or one region.
It's not so much about racism in Tennessee - it's about attack ads and dirty politics and idiots who vote Republican because our right-wing media tells them to. God, gays and guns. Oh - and it's about the stupid black-box voting machines we unfortunately have.
If Tennessee moderates and liberals get the vote out - Ford has it. I can tell by the number of yard signs and stickers in REAL peoples' yards.

to do anything but manage to steal it. It's these close ones that Karl feeds off of. That slim margin is his best game.
That's what scares me most. That all of those that are within 5% or 6% will flip to the (R) when the votes get counted. And once again, the news will be 24/7 telling the nation that the Democratic Party is officially dead. :grr:

Democrat poised to take Montana and Ohio, and Rhode Island.

|
I agree, six months ago everyone would have been really happy with this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first poll showing Webb in the lead. I guess I'd have to revise my idea of two days ago of pulling out of Virginia and putting everything we have into Tenn. Although I still can't figure out why a charismatic Congressman like Ford is having any trouble at all defeating Corker, who seems to me (as an outsider) as kind of a non-entity. I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.
Although we've dared to dream of taking it all, I think we're in very, very good position. Even a 50-50 tie in the Senate, with Cheney casting tie-breaking votes, would severely hamper the Bush agenda.

but I don't really trust the LA Times polling... They should Bustamante up by 11 points right before the election that he was badly beaten. I don't think we should trust them any more than we trust rw-biased polls like strategic vision and rasmussen.
