Frequent robo calls in WI touting absentee voting?
What's up with that? We even had a guy come to our door, with Kerry stickers on the back of his clipboard, urging us to apply for an absentee ballot. We use opscan machines in our precinct, which aren't perfect, God knows, but do leave a paper trail. What advantage would there be in voting absentee? Or are these calls a voter-suppression scam of some sort?

2. Lots of DUers are suggesting that we vote absentee
It may be the only way of having a countable paper trail in some states. I think in Oregon, everyone votes by mail, and they seem to have the least problems with vote tampering. On the other hand, I hear that they often don't bother to count all the absentee ballots before calling a race. I'm torn. We have optical scan, too. I like voting in person. It feels empowering.

4. See, there are others (Mark Crispin Miller among them)
who insist that massive Dem turnout (and the resulting exit poll results) is the only antidote to another round of election fraud. I guess I kind of come down on that side of the argument.

3. We get a lot of that in Washington State
So much so, in fact, that they are eliminating polling places starting in 2007. If you don't want to vote by mail, your only option will be to drive to a "regional polling station" -- in some cases, up to 150 miles from where you live -- and use a touch-screen.

So long, ballot security! It was nice while it lasted.
