GOP field op: "There's no volunteers. None. Zero"
Everyone's panicking. A veteran Republican field who's spent time in Iowa and Florida recently e-mails us in horror: "There's no volunteers. None. Zero."

It's always fun to hear about The Magical Rovian Ground Game.

2. Rove's Machine is broken
Too many of his key operatives are out of commission or laying low this year. Boo-hoo. Rove done lost his mojo.

3. Call me cynical
but I don't believe anything these people say. Perhaps he's just trying to lure us all into a false sense of complacency. Wouldn't put it past them.

26. Oh, we can listen
but I'm not betting the bank on anything that comes out of their mouths.

I would love it if the fundies stayed home and the true 'small government' conservatives sat this one out but I am not going to pop the bubbly until 11/8.

4. Wonder if the MSM will scale back their "GOP get out the vote machine" mantra.
A better description would be the GOP steal and suppress the vote machine!

5. Not according to the talking head on NPR this morning.
I didn't catch her name, but she was really pushing the big strength of the GOP as their ability to hustle and get out the last-minute votes.

AFAIC, I love it when GOP bobbleheads talk this way. It helps their base to feel complacent. Perhaps they believe that Rove has pulled the rabid rabbit out of the hat before, maybe he'll do it again even if they don't show up to vote.

22. To be fair, I heard another program on public radio this afternoon,
On the Media, which made it clear that voter fraud is a myth while voter suppression is a growing danger to our democracy. It was quite clear that the Republicans feed the myth of voter fraud while engaging in voter suppression.

27. I missed that one.
I only happened to listen to NPR this morning because I was driving and turned on the radio at the right time.

After all these years, NPR is finally catching on to voter suppression, eh? ;)

Put yourself in the GOP's shoes. Would you support the Dems if they were in as much legal and ethical trouble as the Repukes? I sure wouldn't.

Meanwhile here in New York people are self-organizing to form groups to canvass in promising CDs. There are buses of volunteers leaving from NYC to canvass around the state. Everyone's volunteering. I met a friend last night who said, "oh man, I haven't done anything yet. Send me some info and I'll phonebank this weekend." Every political club is sending groups out. Because our statewide offices are safe people are concentrating on individual districts. There are 4-5 opportunities to win back Congressional seats right here in NY and we know it.

25. Those NYC volunteers aren't just canvassing around NY.
When I was out canvassing in the Philly suburbs last weekend I ran into two different people from NYC who were here canvassing for Lois Murphy. They said NYC didn't really need any help going Dem so they wanted to go somewhere where they could make a difference.

I should add that nearly every door I knocked on already had literature stuck in it for some Democratic candidate, and I did not see one piece of Repub literature nor one Repub canvasser!

11. Was shocked to hear NPR this AM - Mara Liasson's report
on how the election is looking was unabashedly pro GOP in my view - saying that the left is counting their chickens already, saying that races that look to be blow out are actually going to be close, etc. I caught quite a lot of right wing spin in the report...then again, she does show her face on Faux "news" occasionally...
