Do you want America to win in Iraq?
Here are some other questions that ought to be asked:

Do you want to win the lottery tomorrow?

Do you want your recently killed in action son/daughter/father/mother/brother/sister to come back from the dead?

Do you want to not have parkinson's disease anymore?

Would you like Rush Limbaugh to shut up?

These are all examples of questions that have the obvious "yes" answer. Yet we all know THEY ARE NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. It's called the difference between what you want and what you can realistically have.

It is so typical of conservatives to ask this kind of a nonsensical question as a way to make their "point". They are a bunch of bratty children who throw tantrums if they don't get what they want.

We all want America to "win" (define that for me!) in Iraq. Maybe in la-la land, it may come to pass. In the real world, it is not going to happen.

In summary: Fuck you, O'Reilly. Fuck you, Cheney.

1. It's a false dilemma. "America" doesn't win in Iraq no matter what
the outcome of this occupation is.

Halliburton might win but American has nothing to gain there.

They mislead you by starting out with the wrong (false) question.

4. Doesn't everybody want the Iraqis to win?
I sure hope they get to keep their oil. All things considered I think they were MUCH better off with Sadam!

7. Really? They seem to be dying at a much faster rate
under this murderous occupation. We seem to torture and rape just as well as he did. And we, unlike Saddam, have no interest whatsoever in keeping the populace even minimally satisfied.

Are they "much" better off? We must be talking about two different Iraqs.

8. That's going a bit too far.
All things considered I think they were MUCH better off with Sadam!

Come on now, they didn't call him the Butcher of Baghdad for nothing.

The guy had total control over the government and the military, but now the bastard is gone and his military is decimated. We did our job. Now it's the Iraqis' turn to stand up and determine their own fate.

10. "We did our job"
Edited on Sat Oct-28-06 11:05 PM by Ms. Clio
yes indeed, that oil has been secured and Halliburton has become obscenely wealthy. And Bush is now the new Butcher of Baghdad! Brilliant!

Mission Accomplished!

Why does the rest of your post sound like that infamous rightwing talking point, "when they stand up, we'll stand down?"

2. There is nothing to "win" in Iraq unless it's the pillage of
their natural resource, oil. However, I would like the USA to do the right thing for Iraq in recompense for what we did to them to win back our credibility and good reputation.

3. Just what would constitute victory?
Obviously we could nuke the whole country and make a radioactive parking lot/graveyard of it, but what kind of a "win" is that? We're not going to make the Iraqi people into western Europeans, no matter what happens, so what's the best-case scenario? A squalid religious dictatorship like Saudi Arabia, which protects American oil interests while actively encouraging terrorism abroad?

5. I want lots of things
But I'm smart enough to know that wanting doesn't mean getting, and compassionate enough to stop wanting if my pursuit hurts others.

More to the point, I'd never LIE about my reasons for wanting a thing and use fear tactics to enlist others on a fool's errand to get it for me!

6. I thought they already did "win" -- several times, now
Mission Accomplished, capture of Saddam, purple fingers, killing Zarqawi, etc. etc. etc.

9. As you say, Define winning in Iraq.
I wish Dave had managed to ask Bill the Warrior that question.

Bill would have gone off on his Bush is not evil and America is not the problem standard rejoinder and not answer but it would be good to pin down Number One Frontline Fighter Bill on his definition of win in Iraq.

And Bill America did not invade Iraq to destory the 200 man Ansar al-Islam "terrorists".

18. Tell me what "America wins in Iraq" means, and I'll tell you...
...whether I want it or not. I'm also gonna need to know how many more brave American troops will die and how many innocent Iraqi civilians will be killed or tortured in the process.

without rolling the clock back to before 2003. And naturally, that ain't gonna happen.
