ALLEN REFUSES To Release Docs Detailing His ARREST RECORD
ALLEN ARREST RECORDS CONTROVERSY: ALLEN REFUSES TO RELEASE DOCUMENTS DETAILING HIS ARREST RECORD
Allen’s Multiple Arrest Warrants Could Have Been for Anything From Assault to Disorderly Conduct to Battery
October 28, 2006
By: Phil Singer, DSCC

Democrats are demanding that George Allen stop stonewalling and immediately release records addressing why multiple warrants were issued for his arrest in 1974 while he was a student at the University of Virginia. The court records of his arrests are missing but one of the few official documents detailing the circumstances surrounding his arrests is Allen’s application to the Virginia Bar Association. Allen has so far refused to release that information.

“Allen’s adamant refusal to release documents about his arrest record suggests that there’s more to this story and that he’s hiding something. Allen’s got a character problem and this stonewalling isn’t helping him any,” Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesman Phil Singer said.

When news of the arrest warrants resurfaced this month, one of Allen’s aides said that one was issued for unpaid parking tickets and another for fishing without a license. The warrants are posted on an index (click here for a photo of the ledger), but Allen has failed to produce any written documentation verifying his explanation for why the warrants were issued and has not personally addressed the matter.

Shortly after the warrants were issued, Allen applied for membership in the Virginia Bar Association and had to detail his arrest record. Allen could clear up the controversy over his arrest records by simply making the Bar Association documents public. “Considering all the concerns that have been raised about Allen’s character, one would think he’d rush to make official documents detailing his arrest public so that people believe his explanations for why he was arrested,” Singer said.

5. By Starting at the Local Level
and then getting into State level races.
Few (if any) County Supervisors or
State Delegates are investigated the
way people are when they run for Federal positions.

Allen was just a local "pretty boy" who has, over decades,
become a well known name. Running as a Repuglican in what used
to be a solid Repuglican State, he kept winning simply by having an "R"
after his name.

Even now, with all the character questions in play, he still gets
a pass with anyone who votes the party and not the candidate, i.e.,
the brain dead (anyone who voted for Bush a second time).

8. Because Chuck Robb had his pants open
and Doug Wilder exposed him for it. We had only ourselves to blame for the ascendency of Felix. The Virginia Democrats were very weak when this guy took hold and took Robb's Senate seat. This was pre-Mark Warner, pre-Tim Kaine. There was never any serious opposition to this guy in his political career coming up. The Virginia Democrats look a lot more promising now.

6. Since when do they issue arrest warrants for fishing without a license?
Never heard of such a thing. They give tickets for that where I am from. I smell something "fishy" here.

10. Right. Cheney got a pass for not having the proper permit
and he shot a guy in the face! I have never heard of anybody being arrested for fishing without a license. Ever.

11. Assault?
From what I have read about how he treated his siblings growing up, it wouldn't surprise me that he may have an assault record. The man sounds absolutely sadistic.

If it is, EVERYONE will know what a racist, self-serving, incompetent, corrupt, morally bankrupt POS he is.

In other words, a typical repuke.

20. Shouldn't civil servants have to act with civility?
We need a code of conduct. A zero tolerance kind of thing, as much as I despise that phrase.

I'm guessing racially motivated assault. Come on, place your bets. Winner gets a paid trip to Oklahoma City.

24. Someone Needs To Get The Virgina Bar Association on the Record...
... asking if it is in the public interest for them to secret evidence of arrest records by a member of the State Bar Association? And if the public funds the State Bar Association, should the issuance of a license to practice law include a public disclosure of information provided in support of the issuance of that license to practice law in that jurisdiction?

If he got the records expunged, that is completely different from the records being 'destroyed' because of the passage of time. If he was never convicted, someone needs to explain how the record of arrest warrants remains but the court file is empty.

This is one that needs to be pressed with people in a position to know what happened, then go to the candidate and ask him to refute it. Then ask if he supports the policy of secreting court records related to an arrest when that individual runs for public office. He would be in between a rock and a hard place on that one.
