More Republican deteriorata: Houston Chronicle headline
Bush stumps for Sekula-Gibbs in Sugar Land

By KRISTEN MACK and ERIC HANSON

President Bush, his collar open and his sleeves rolled up, told 2,000 cheering Republicans in Sugar Land today that they should "bring your pencil" to the polls and write-in the name of Shelley Sekula-Gibbs to succeed Tom DeLay in the U.S. House.

"I always feel better when I'm in Texas," Bush said to the crowd packed into a hangar at the Sugar Land airport, before urging them to take the extra steps necessary to vote for Sekula-Gibbs.

What "extra" steps are needed?

Hmmm.

2. None if Diebold machines are being used.
Your vote is automatically given to her.

3. I think he's referring to
having to write in a candidate rather than just voting for one, it takes a bit more time. He's so damn lazy that, to him, that means "extra steps."

6. This Is A Totally Screwed Up Election
I get confused trying to get this one right. There will be two ballots on the Congressional Race. Ballot One is to fill out the remainder of DeLay's term (while, hopefully, he's starting his term in the state penn) that only will last through the lame duck session in December. On that ballot, Sekulla-Gibbs name is on it...thus, a vote for her there means she gets a cup of navy bean soup and able to help ram through all the earmarks and last minute plundering the GOOP is likely to do if they lose the majority next week. Ballot 2 is for the two year term starting in January. Nick Lamspon is listed on the ballot as the sole candidate...DeLay had his name removed, but couldn't get Sekulla-Gibbs name on the ballot. The only way she wins a full term is for people to physically write her name in (good luck, I had to double check several times how to type her name here)...thus his assholiness' crack about the pencil today. I'll bet that oxygen thief wouldn't be able to figure this out...probably vote for Sekulla-Gibbs in the provision election thinking he'd voted for her for the full 2 year term...and he sure showed us!

While Nick Lampson will win...he's got a tough 2 years ahead. This is a heavily GOOP district that is sure to be in the top 5 or 10 races in 2008. It very much reminds me of when Dan Rostenkowski went down in '94...following his post office scandal and was beaten by a Repugnican named Mike Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald's stay in the house was very brief...in '96 he was run out of the district by Rod Blagoyovich and now is held by the "esteemed" Rahm Emanuel.

Still, for the two years, if that's what it is, it'll be sweet to see a (D) from Sugarland, Texas.
