RW Says John Kerry makes fun of troops. Kerry Responds
The RW, lacking any issues that actually work for them in this election season, have decided to pull quotes out of context and make stuff up about Democrats. (Again, sigh!) The Republican Noise Machine, oddly enough, hasn't said a word about the story in the NYTimes yesterday that talked about weapons that were 'lost' in Iraq and may now be in use against our troops over there and can't be traced because we never recorded the serial numbers of these weapons. Bastids. Ahm, gee, I think that'a a greater outrage against our troops than pulling a quote out of context, but you know those wacky RWers.

Anyway, here is the response to the RW having another nutty because, ahm it's all they have.

Statement of John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions, Pathetic Tony Snow Diversions and Distractions

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.

Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”

I would have said something classless and tasteless, like 'Bite me, you lying friggin, no-good bastards.'

Then again, I'm not reserved and full of high-fallutin college words.

Where is my good friend with the word analysis. I have taken the pledge and am not going to be snarky. Ed level to read this one?

42. I'll stand by my "finally" comment.
I agree, John Kerry has come out swinging over the past two years. But it seems like he takes a swing, connects, then back pedals to "explain away" the inevitable right-wing spin.

I want him to keep hammering the simple facts, and not let up. I still believe that we have right and truth on our side.

17. it was a mistake.
The mistake they made was that they thought the truth was out there already and to bring up the attacks would only spread the misinformation. Kerry now acknowledges this. People are always basing campaigns on the last election, and sometimes they just aren't appropriate enough. I hope this new, more aggressive strategy fits this election well enough.

8. LOVE the statement...
But where was THIS John Kerry when we needed him, let's say in October of 2004? Y'know, the John Kerry who said on Bill Maher's "Real Time" that we have to be ready to "keep a boot up the ass" of these slime merchants.

As a woman, it truly, truly pains me to say this, but the three WORST presidential campaigns I've ever seen run were Dukakis in '88, Gore in 2000, and Kerry in '04. And the thing they had in common is they were all run by women. I honestly think they didn't (at least those three didn't) have the killer instincts you need to run a campaign today, especially if your opponent's last name is Bush. When you've got a candidate that can take his/her opponent apart in the brains category, you've got to let them do it. I always felt that both John Kerry and Al Gore were being muzzled by their campaign managers, who obviously thought the "swift-boating" and dissemination of right wing lies would just go away by themselves.

12. You may have a point there.
And I'm a woman, too. You have to be unremittingly aggressive to wage a killer campaign, and men simply are, on average, more aggressive than women. It's the ONLY main difference that researchers have been able to document about the differences between male and female personalities.

24. Gore and Kerry won. The DNC run by Clinton's men failed to secure election process
so the votes earned could be registered and counted.

The RNC won those contests - Bush and Rove didn't - the contests were won by the RNCs massive vote suppression, purged voter rolls, and vote stealing that occurred every day of the four years BETWEEN elecion days.

Gore and Kerry won. Bush lost. The RNC stole both because of a collapsed Dem party infrastructure that did not counter the RNc's tactics for the four years they were charged with doing so.

14. Kerry's figured out the Rove playbook. Webb too, it sounds like.
Never retreat. Never let these attacks put you on the defensive.

View every attack as an invitation to launch 5 more attacks on the other side.

Every time one of our guys is attacked, he has an audience, waiting to hear his response.

The American people are looking for people WHO KNOW HOW TO HANDLE ASSHOLES.

When we stammer, and apologize, and placate the domestic assholes, it looks to the voting public, that we are incapable of handling the assholes overseas who want to kill us.

Simple.

Maybe I'm a bit slow but I seriously doubt this is a real statement from Kerry. It seems like most posters are treating this as genuine. Perhaps they have better developed senses of irony than I do.

I'd love to be wrong, really I would. But this doesn't sniff like a Kerry statement at all. Is this a subtle joke everyone is in on and pretending to be serious or has the Senator actually found some cojones?

29. Kerry's been attacking GOPs like this in defense of Dem vets all year long.
Just as other Dems should have done in 2004.

ANY time a vet has ever been attacked politically for DECADES, Kerry has been the first to defend them - he should have been able to depend on more Dems to do the same for him in 2004 - few did, most didn't want to expose themselves to the smear machine. They won't sit silent again.

52. The problem is, Kerry botched his delivery...
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 07:10 AM by Seabiscuit
Kerry apparently meant it as an insult to the Bush administration for "not doing their homework" before invading Iraq.

If Kerry's original quote read, as you stated: "You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq" then it would be pretty clear he's talking about Bush, et. al.

But that's not what is being reported. What's being reported is that Kerry originally said: "You end up getting stuck in Iraq".

That can just as easily be construed as telling the troops that if you don't do well in school you end up in Iraq - implying, according to Bush and his Repukes that he's saying the troops that end up in Iraq are stupid.

According to the MSM, Kerry botched his delivery and actually said "you end up getting stuck in Iraq" instead of what he intended to say, "you end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq" : http://edition.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/01/kerry.remarks/:

A Kerry aide told CNN that the prepared statement, which had been designed to criticize President Bush, "was mangled in delivery."

Kerry was supposed to say, "I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."
