My email to Lou Dobbs, regarding his slander of Kerry

I don't usually do this, but I was so mad at Dobbs for calling Kerry "arrogant" and carrying the repukes' water that I had to respond. I'm sure it will do no good. I thought that Dobbs had some brains, but apparently not.

Mr. Dobbs,

I formerly had some respect for you as a journalist. In the world of corporate-controlled media, you were one of the few who seemed to try to stand up for average Americans. Unfortunately, that all changed today. Senator Kerry misspoke, true, but he clarified his remarks and you knew his words were directed against Mr. Bush, not American troops. Nevertheless, you went on the air and repeated Republican lies, calling Senator Kerry “arrogant.” Arrogant, Mr. Dobbs? Arrogance is a foreign policy of aggression, put forth by cowards who never wore a military uniform, that has cost almost 3,000 American troops their lives and done immeasurable harm to our reputation around the world. Arrogance is cutting the benefits of veterans who return from the war. Arrogance is shredding the system of checks and balances that our forefathers crafted into the Constitution. Arrogance is denying millions of Americans access to healthcare with one hand while outsourcing their jobs with the other – issues that YOU claim to care about.

Perhaps you really do care about these things, Mr. Dobbs, but the fact that you unthinkingly put forth Republican spin as if it were truth shows that you are in reality nothing but a tool of this administration, and, quite frankly, a fool.

Think about this, Mr. Dobbs. By misrepresenting the Senator’s words on your national news program, you may have influenced voters to support Republicans and their failed war in Iraq. You, sir, may well have just helped to cause even more deaths among the middle-class whom you claim to support. You owe your viewers nothing less than a retraction of your slander regarding Senator Kerry’s “arrogance.” Be a man and do it.

There was indeed a “self-inflicted wound” today, Mr. Dobbs – you destroyed the last shreds of credibility that you had as a journalist.

to all who offered kind words for my letter. I don't post much (I had to have them send me a new password because it's been so long since I was logged in), but I'm absolutely sick of what's happening in our country. I do lurk a lot, though, and learn a lot from DU.

I doubt Mr. Dobbs will read it either, or that it will do any good even if he does, but at least I tried.

20. Terrific letter! K&R. And I absolutely agree with you about Lou Dobbs.

He seemed to be "one of us," since he vehemently opposed the war in Iraq, despite previously being CNN's founder and "money guy," and he had Randi Rhodes on his show. But this was definitely misguided and way over any line, to believe that John Kerry, who served with honor and has supported the military throughout his distinguished career, would actually bash our troops. He was one of them and understands better than any one of us what they are experiencing. To see and hear this dissected on the MSM is just unconscionable. John Kerry made a brilliant speech, today, and they should be quoting that. I think I'm going to e-mail Lou Dobbs, as well. Thank you. :-(

It makes no sense for him to be so insulting--and this is not the first time he's bashed Sen. Kerry when he could have kept quiet and let it pass.

As president, Kerry would have worked to secure our ports and borders. He would have worked to remove the tax incentives for corps who ship jobs overseas. He would have worked for the middle class that Dobbs says he cares so much about, and he damn sure would be doing something about the costly and immoral occupation of Iraq.

35. That is a wonderful letter. I wrote the show too. Dobbs just seem to be

gunning for Kerry today for no good reason. It was a flub for pete sake. I thought he was way over the top. He is a conservative though and he always has his political news wrong. Today, however, he needed to hear our outrage. I think it will do some good.

Boy someone really let Lou make an ass of himself on the Kerry matter.

Even Matthews had the AP report which put the lie to the RNC talking point Lou ended up parroting.

Sad that this undercuts his credibility on more important matters like election reform.

If the blogs are right, we may well have to add "Dem hater" to the "immigrant hater" baggage he carries.

This one's well worth a special apologetic comment by Lou himself, but I'm not holding my breath.

Dobbs might be inclined to downplay it, but the show's editor or complain liason might have a different opinion. It is really well stated.
