Never Forget: George W. Bush willfully violated National Security to cover-up his willful launch of a war of aggression and illegal occupation of Iraq.... and, if you doubt it, just check 'the google' ...

17. you forgot nicknaming troops "fodder units", IMO that is criminally disrespectful
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 07:25 PM by TheBaldyMan
Jeb and Dubya Bush jokingly use that term. A similar term OFU was coined by their father, it stands for 'One Fodder Unit' a jocular term for a member of the US armed services.

:sarcasm:
Those Bush family members have a great sense of humour and lots of repect for the troops.

19. Do you have a link to an article which covers that issue?
Even if it's part of the military jargon, soldiers are entitled to their own self-deprecating humor. Outsiders are not.

That's interesting. I've never heard that term before.

20. I dont know if the article is still up on the net ...
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 07:54 PM by TheBaldyMan
OFU = "One Fodder Unit." Attributed to George H. W. Bush Sr., by Al Martin in his article: "The Ambassador Wilson Affair: The End of Karl Rove -- And George Bush?" Published September 2, 2003, http://www.almartinraw.com/

I have seen it attributed to Jeb and Dubya elsewhere by Michael Moore and Geg Palast but these were secondary sources.

This is not normal servicemans' gallows humour, it is the kind of snooty frat-boy humour laughing at the plebs for being too dumb or not rich enough to duck service.

on edit: original article by Martin reproduced by Richmond IM article

No wonder I've never heard it. Lots of military in my family.

Thanks for checking on this. I'll do a bit of research. Honestly, I don't think knowing about this would make a difference to the American public, though. :(

22. here's a link to a shockwave flash animation that mentions it as well
apparently GHW Bush coined the term originally for a US tax-payer as 'One Fodder Unit' like a lot of cattle in a stall. Then he used the term 'lots of fodder units' to refer to dead servicemens' caskets being returned to airport in the US. Jeb and Dubya may have picked up on that usage.
Take Back the Media - Murder by Numbers

It's an excellent animation but it will probably shove your blood pressure up above safe levels

And thanks for the warning. My BP has been a rollercoaster for the last 6 years anyway, I'll risk it.

:hi:

Edit to add: Just watched it. I wasn't aware of Reagan and Clinton attending all those services. WTF is wrong with bush?

Don't answer that. You'll be up all night penning a post.
