Kerry didn't disparage the troops. GWB did.
Kerry said GWB did not use his education wisely.

GWB said the someone called the troops stupid, and then defended against a make believe attack by saying they were "plenty smart" meaning they were smart enough or not too smart for his use.

"Bush on Kerry remark: U.S. troops are 'plenty smart' "

GWB is the one disparaging the troops.

GWB is the outrage.

You are willing to accept what the news spin is and deny the truth? I doubt Wes would agree with you. In fact you make Wes look bad with the defeatism you display.

7. Yes
And I am free to interpret those opinions when placed here.

And it seems you are on the media's side. And that is the wrong side.

2. Bush was too stupid for the military
but spoiled enough to weasel his way out.
Had the circumstances been different, he
might have been cannon fodder.

(nsa disclaimer.. it's a figure of speech.. kinda)

4. I know what Kerry meant, but I'm sorry...
It was still clumsy and poorly worded. Whenever he tries to be funny or clever it just comes out clumsy and dopey.

It should be nowhere near the news story it is, but that's the way it works.

8. I would be happy if someone could
point out what sign there was that he was trying to be funny. I saw no smile, heard no chuckle, nothin. No sir, he was being serious!

9. Maybe funny is the wrong word...
..he was trying to be too clever by about half. I realize it was cleverness designed to be a dig at Bush, but regardless there are just certain people who try and pull this type of shit off and fail miserably. Biden, Kerry, a few others. I don't doubt their good intentions but jesus you guys are not clever and not funny so please stop doing us any favors by trying to be so.

10. The other thing I see
is some Kerry supporters going around posting that what he actually said (the gaffe) was true anyways. In other words if you don't think he mispoke he spoke the truth. This is the kind of Kerry defending bs that pissed me off. I don't think the average bloak swing voter who is starting to browse political blogs wants to read all kinds of twisted logic defense of the former candidate for President who won't say what he believes.

Personally I think Kerry meant what he said, consider the audience, he wasn't speaking to troops. I think he does believe this: that a higher percentage of underpriviledged relative to the general population are there (serving in Iraq) because they are underpriviledged, and see the military as a leg up opportunity. So he should have corrected his remarks to say what he believes, but in a way that didn't leave room to be misunderstood by the troops who don't fit that category.

Hopefully the mods won't delete this post, even though I said something critical of Kerry.

11. I agree with you....
But again, it was just clumsily worded and poorly delivered.

I'm sorry but after however many years of this bullshit if these politicians don't know how the media game is played and how things are going to come across then there is no excuse.
