Our Troops? Jesus Christ!
I love my auntie dearly, which is why I can't respond directly to this spam email she passed along to me. But maybe I can rant about it here?

Thought for the day:

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out."

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. Jesus Christ

2. The American G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.
AMEN!

I'm trying to figure out what this comparison is implying though...

1) That Jesus Christ was the hapless tool of a sadistically ruthless, cruel, covetous and stupid ruler?

or

2) That George Bush is God?

1. Dear Auntie: I know you mean well. but . . .
...the American GI's are not dying for your freedom or mine. Iraq was not a threat to us, as I am sure you realize that Bush lied about getting us into that war. These GI's are dying by the thousands for a war that was strictly Bush's choice. Love you! MetaTrope

2. What kind of people expect someone else to die for them?
That's the weird part. GIs at least in theory are fighting for their own freedom.

And just because they are sent off to a war doesn't mean they are "fighting for your freedom." There's no threat to our freedom from Iraq, the war is a political ploy.

3. The GOP: Always expecting OTHERS to die for their sins.

4. I swear...I'm actually beginning to get scared...
Apparently, freedom is in constant and immediate danger and AT ANY MINUTE could collapse.

I get that it is something that must be constantly defended but the Republicans make it seem like Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings.

5. Blair is right
You can tell how great a country is by how many people want to get there. For instance, all our troops want to come home to America. So, apparently, does half of Baghdad, as millions flee the ongoing violence there. They wouldn't want to come here if they thought we were responsible for the living hell their city has become. We're only responsible for unleashing the forces that are turning their homeland into a hell.

Of course among those coming over here may well be a few Iraqi who want to attack us for the slaughter we've unleashed onto their families. They weren't terrorists before 2003, but I guess, by definition, they could be now.
