Rep Sweeney smacked around his wife-911 call from 12/2005
BY JOE MAHONEY
and BEN SMITH
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS
POWERFUL UPSTATE Rep. John Sweeney got into an early-morning fracas with his wife that became so frightening she called 911 for help, the Daily News has learned.

Gayle (Gaia) Sweeney told the 911 dispatcher that her husband was “knocking her around the house,” according to a December 2005 state police report obtained by The News.

After Gayle Sweeney said, “Here it comes, are you ready?” the call was disconnected.

She later told a state trooper who came to their suburban Albany residence that she and her husband had a “verbal argument that turned a little physical by her being grabbed by the neck and pushed around the house,” according to the report.

No one was arrested in the Dec. 2, 2005, scrap — and state police have refused to release any information that could substantiate the incident. They contend that making such documents public would violate a person’s privacy because no arrest was made.

The Times Union confirmed several months ago, through multiple law enforcement sources, that State Police had responded to the Sweeney residence in early December to investigate a domestic dispute. The sources confirmed that Sweeney had scratches on his face when a trooper arrived, but they provided no additional information about the incident.

In the past 10 months, at least three news organizations, including the Times Union, have filed formal requests seeking disclosure of police records about the incident. State Police denied those requests and, according to agency sources, ordered that all inquiries about the matter be directed to headquarters, where officials have declined comment.

So this isn't just 'a story'. This happened two weeks after his son pleaded guilty for the brutal beating of a young man. The apple doesn't fall far....

He's my congressman. We are doing all we can to get him out.

Spread this story and help Kirsten any way you can. The polls are all over the place, some have her up a lot some down and some tied. Hope this story will sway the undecided to not vote for this gangster. Sweeney was the one who was in charge of the young republicans who rioted in FL in '00. We have to get someone who will really represent us.

14. I found a quick reference to that, which I hadn't known earlier:
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 12:48 AM by Judi Lynn
The New York Times reported the event as follows:
"Further details are emerging about the riot Wednesday that preceded the Miami-Dade County election commission's decision to give up recounting the votes in the presidential election. As election workers sat counting votes, a mob screamed outside, pounded on furniture, tried to force its way into the building, surrounded a Democratic Party official, knocked two television cameramen to the ground, and kicked and punched several people, including a Democratic spokesman as he attempted to hold a news conference."
In fact the violence was actually incited by New York Representative John Sweeney, who was involved in the protest.

any pics of him actually protesting? We've been searching for it with no luck.

20. Not yet. It would be outstanding if they surfaced, no matter how long
it takes. This subject hasn't been covered NEARLY well enough. They had far too much power over that election.

3. Bad Piece of News for Sweeney (R)
This was just published in the Albany, NY Times-Union at 8:53 this evening, and is hitting the NY Daily News tomorrow. I imagine the Albany area TV stations will pick it up also Not good for GOP Rep. John Sweeney(R), who is in a tight race with Democratic challenger Kirsten Gillibrand.

----------------------------------------------------

CLIFTON PARK -- The wife of U.S. Rep. John Sweeney called police last December to complain her husband was ``knocking her around'' during a late-night argument at the couple's home, according to a document obtained last week by the Times Union.

The emergency call to a police dispatcher triggered a visit to the couple's residence by a state trooper from Clifton Park, who filed a domestic incident report after noting that the congressman had scratches on his face, the document states. No criminal charges were filed.

Gaia M. Sweeney, 36, told a trooper that her husband had grabbed her by the neck and was pushing her around the house, according to the document.
