Question: This $500 per child tax increase, how did that come about? |
|
I keep hearing Bush et. al. talking about how Democrats are going to cut the exemption for children from $1,000 to $500. As far as I know, nobody with a D next to their name has proposed such a thing. And I would expect that had one actually done so, we would have heard about it over and over from the media's talking heads, not to mention being used extensively in the Political Ad War now under way.
Plus, quite frankly IMHO, common sense says that NO politician with any acumen would even suggest such a thing; that exemption has more voltage than the third rail of Social Security.
So where did this LIE originate?

But I wondering what is the basis for this LIE.
And maybe more importantly; How are the Dems fighting back on this? Are they calling out the LIE?

a tax cut : the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001. That would 'revert' the Child Tax back to the $500 cap. http://www.fool.com/taxes/2003/taxes030221.htm
