Andy Sullivan (oddly enough) has the PERFECT response to this Kerry nonsense....

http://time.blogs.com/daily_dish/2006/11/abandoning_an_a.html

The U.S. military does not have a tradition of abandoning its own soldiers to foreign militias, or of taking orders from foreign governments. No commander-in-chief who actually walks the walk, rather than swaggering the swagger, would acquiesce to such a thing. The soldier appears to be of Iraqi descent who is married to an Iraqi woman. Who authorized abandoning him to the enemy? Who is really giving the orders to the U.S. military in Iraq? These are real questions about honor and sacrifice and a war that is now careening out of any control. They are not phony questions drummed up by a partisan media machine to appeal to emotions to maintain power.

And where, by the way, is McCain on this? Silent on Cheney's "no-brainer" on waterboarding. Silent recently on Iraq. But vocal - oh, how vocal - on Kerry. It tells you something about what has happened to him. And to America.

:wow:

23. Terrific.
don't feel a need to credit. Sometimes it is more important to see the worth of a product, or an idea than it is to be the inventor. If that product or idea is not being used to its fullest extent, then the credit should go to the one that saw the utility of it and put it to good use.

6. I've said it before, I'll say it again, you should read Sullivan daily
hell has no fury like a woman scorned (no bad joke intended). He is so pissed off he is doing some of the best writing against the evil empire of anyone out there.

I wondered "what made Sullivan switch, when did it come?" So yesterday I went through his archives. It was fascinating, like reading the diary of a right winger who starts to see the light. I just read randomly through them when I knew he'd be pissed, the gay marriage debate, abu ghraib etc. I remember reading those posts at the time because someone must have linked to them. But soon thereafter Sullivan would trash some Dem, I'd get pissed and swear him off. But you really see him lose it over the Swift Boaters. He couldn't believe it. And for me it seemed he could not stomach the GOP any more after he saw the bandaids with the purple hearts at the convention.

I think he is a great study on how we can win back thinking people in this country. He hates the fundamentalists and is calling for everyone to "vote Democratic and if you can't, abstain" this year and he calls for Rummy's resignation at least once a week.

Of course, if you say you think he has something to say on this forum, be prepared to be "yelled" at by people who hate him. I'm not saying we should give him the keys to the city, I'm saying we should listen to him and use what he says as a way to wedge people out of the GOP and over to our side.

There really isn't a place for fiscal conservative/social liberal people in the republican party anymore.

24. yes, it seems the parties are realigning
we should let them have the social conservatives and try to win the social "liberal" (libertarians but not as selfish) away.

Honestly, I'm for a balanced budget, and a "small government" (when it comes to my personal life) It seems the big remaining diference is philosophical: can government help shape culture? True conservatives say no. I'm beginning to see the danger in saying "yes" what with Bush's plans to turn us into born agains and using military power to turn Iraq into a Jeffersonian Democracy.

We inch closer and closer. . .we just need to seal the deal. I'd LOVE to see a discussion between someone like Sullivan and a smartie on the liberal side (Clinton? Bill of course) over what divides us and how we could come together. Then we let the Roves and religious nut cases fight it out amongst themselves.

19. Sullivan's making the rounds these days
I've seen him a couple of times recently -- on The Daily Show, on the C-SPAN book show, and another program or two. I was prepared to barf, but when he gets a chance to expound at some length, what he says is often actually refreshing. I don't know how much influence he has with Republicans, but if his ideas gain traction within their party we could yet see the day when the ultra-right wing in this country is marginalized, as it should be.

Even better, if more fiscal conservatives come to understand that there's a place for them in the Democratic tent ("Yes, we'll raise taxes--on the billionaires!!")--then we make huge gains.
