Hello! BAGHDAD IS UNDER SIEGE and all we worry about is Kerry's
This should be headlines! The incompetence and idiocy of this Bush administration has left Iraq in turmoil. The main city of Iraq is under siege and all Bush is worried about are benchmarks, WTF benchmarks!

Everything is cut off in Baghdad! HeLLO! is anyone out there? HELLO!

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/article1945769.ece

Sunni insurgents have cut the roads linking the city to the rest of Iraq. The country is being partitioned as militiamen fight bloody battles for control of towns and villages north and south of the capital.

As American and British political leaders argue over responsibility for the crisis in Iraq, the country has taken another lurch towards disintegration.

C'mon guys!

hard to tell where to exert pressure, and where to best apply support at just the right time.

I think collectively we're doing the job. The media debate over this probably overestimates it's influence on the races . . . but, you never know.

They are the fiction-factory. To advance their agenda, they must demonize any detractors,. can't have any pesky truths out there getting in the way.. wouldn't be prudent:puke:

about this stuff, are the partisans who have already made up their minds :)

Probably 95% of the people who will even vote in mid-term elections are partisans ..

the other 5% are probably not even watching political tv shows...and are muting their TV every time a political ad even comes on

Chin up :)

33. Standard operating precedure by Republicans
They are attempting to frame the agenda, to turn debate from Bush and his horrific policies, judgment, and actions -- and therefore the need to change leadership in Congress in order to put a brake on Bush--, to a debate about the patriotism of a non-candidate. Red herrings are swimming throughout the complicit major media.

I hope the American people are smarter than that and vote rightly for the future of this nation.

42. The difficulty is...
...we don't own the Rovian Wurlitzer (anyone remember the wonderful graphic of the interlocks between the White House, the major media, and various right-wing, well-funded think tanks?). All we can do, every one of us, is hit the polls in overwhelming droves, to make victory so indisputable that the election stealers will understand they risk exposure and jail time if they try.

From an old list-server I used to post on:

"Get off the internet; I'll see you in the streets!"

On November 7 this has to be true! Even where it means standing 7 hours in line to vote (bring cameras, take pictures, blast the Republithugs with the truth!!).

AMERICA'S GREATEST CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY  / MILITARY USE OF DU

" By illegally using hundreds of tons of depleted uranium (DU) against Iraq  ~  Britain and America have gravely endangered not only the Iraqis but the whole world: "  Dr. Chris Busby, the British radiation expert and UK representative on the European Committee on Radiation Risk .

I originally posted this on Tuesday, May 03, 2005  but with the recent October forward Camp Falcon DU explosions ~ it is now even more pertinent.

The game is up for Bush , Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and the Republicans  ~ we have not only fought an illegal war and occupation in Iraq but have endangered the whole world in the process.

Reporter James Denver, who writes and broadcasts internationally on science and technology, shares the terrible legacy of DU ( Depleted Uranium ) as well as the vital evidence and the enormous harm done by the government of the United States and Great Britain ~ who are both still officially in denial.

Excerpt: " Britain and America not only used DU in this year's Iraq war, they dramatically increased its use-from a minimum of 320 tons in the previous war to at minimum of 1500 tons in this one. And this time the use of DU wasn't limited to anti-tank weapons-as it had largely been in the previous Gulf war-but was extended to the guided missiles, large bunker busters and big 2000-pound bombs used in Iraq's cities .... In 1997, while citing experiments, by others, in which 84 percent of dogs exposed to inhaled uranium died of cancer of the lungs, Dr. Asaf Durakovic, then Professor of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Georgetown University in Washington was quoted as saying, 'The Veterans Administration asked me to lie about the risks of incorporating depleted uranium in the human body.' He concluded, 'uranium does cause cancer, uranium does cause mutation, and uranium does kill. If we continue with the irresponsible contamination of the biosphere, and denial of the fact that human life is endangered by the deadly isotope uranium, then we are doing disservice to ourselves, disservice to the truth, disservice to God and to all generations who follow.' "

a little too slow to understand the import of these events. So let me help you.

(SSI=Socialism ~ http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=114&topic_id=22750&mesg_id=22759 )

The Sunni insurgents have moved from tactical to strategic planning and operations. That means that we no longer have a low level Civil War made up of disparate gangs/posses/etc sniping at each other. We now apparently have a some form of unified command and control preparing their order of battle against an opposing force under a unified command and control.

In other words, this is about to matriculate from a Lebanon/Somalia scale civil war to a Russia 1917/Yugoslavia/Spain scale bloodbath.

As for cutting and running, the Chimp did that back in 2004 when he refused to deploy an adequate force in the face of a growing insurgency.

73. From Sy Hersh
Hersh, a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine, has been a thorn in the side of the U.S. government for nearly 40 years. Since his 1969 exposé of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam, which is widely believed to have helped turn American public opinion against the Vietnam War, he has broken news about the secret U.S. bombing of Cambodia, covert C.I.A. attempts to overthrow Chilean president Salvador Allende, and, more recently, the first details about American soldiers abusing prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

<snip>

He described one video in which American soldiers massacre a group of people playing soccer.
“Three U.S. armed vehicles, eight soldiers in each, are driving through a village, passing candy out to kids,” he began. “Suddenly the first vehicle explodes, and there are soldiers screaming. Sixteen soldiers come out of the other vehicles, and they do what they’re told to do, which is look for running people.”

“Never mind that the bomb was detonated by remote control,” Hersh continued. “ open up fire; cameras show it was a soccer game.”

“About ten minutes later, begin dragging bodies together, and they drop weapons there. It was reported as 20 or 30 insurgents killed that day,” he said.

If Americans knew the full extent of U.S. criminal conduct, they would receive returning Iraqi veterans as they did Vietnam veterans, Hersh said. “In Vietnam, our soldiers came back and they were reviled as baby killers, in shame and humiliation,” he said. “It isn’t happening now, but I will tell you – there has never been an army as violent and murderous as our army has been in Iraq.”

79. No Dunkirk, please, no Dunkirk.
For those who don't know, Dunkirk was a battle where the German army overpowered the British and trapped a large army in a town on the English channel.

If Baghdad falls, the number of Americans killed could double in a day.

(Incidentally, in Dunkirk, most of the troops were evacuated by British small boats. Who would evacuate troops from Iraq? Those aircraft carrier groups steaming in the Persian Gulf?)

81. Middle-Eastern Politics makes another head explode!
Very messy indeed.

The Dunkirk scenario: So our airfields are bombed so we can't evacuate personnel, and we lose control of neighborhoods within mortar shell reach of the Green Zone, and our carriers can't shuttle helicopters fast enough.

Israel does what... Evacuate our troops, playing the role of the small ships at Dunkirk, ferrying them to safety? Rescue our troops, occupying the neighborhoods around the Green Zone?

And then what does the surprisingly independent Iraqi puppet government say, what do the surrounding Arab nations do?

Iraq reminds me of a cake that was made with salt instead of sugar. There's nothing you can do to salvage it, no creamy topping that hides the original mistake.

Your name says it all: Save us from Dumbya!
