NOTE: I do NOT condone election fraud - I just want to know if this is legit.

Black Box Voting is reporting a newly discovered security venerability with Sequoia voting machines that allows you to vote as many times as you like simply by pressing a button!

Complete instructions below!

UPDATE: Apparently I need to make it clear that I (we) don't condone stealing elections. I thought that went without saying, but apparently not. I think it's important that people know how insecure these machines are. That's all.

Here is how the "Yellow Button Hack" is done:

1. Go to the back of the voting machine. Press and hold the yellow activate button (about 3 seconds). Release when the screen says "waiting for next voter".

2. Press and hold the yellow button again until the screen says "change to manual activation?"

3. Touch the "Yes" button on the screen.

4. At that point there will be a message on the screen that says "Manual activate voting enabled" (this is just displayed briefly)

5. Next message will read "Waiting for the next voter" When you see that you touch the message that says "start voting" or "resume voting" located in the lower right of the screen The AVC Edge is now set up for poll worker activation mode.

Here is the sequence:

If it's regular voting (as opposed to provisional)

a. Once you've touched the start or resume the "waiting for next voter" appears

b. Activate the ballot by pressing and releasing the yellow activate button

c. Activate the correct party for the voter AND press the yellow activate button using the keypad on the display screen

d. Select the voter's language if appropriate

e. Vote. (Once the voter has completed voting and cast their ballot. Prepare the Edge for the next voter. If the next voter is a regular voter repeat step B and D above.

You can now vote as many times as you want to.

Boy that sure is handy! No more need to vote on behalf of dead people!

Is this for real????

2. Here is a response from a pollworker:
I'm a Machine Manager (Poll Worker) - Florida (3+ / 0-)
Recommended by: MediaRevolution, tvb, Lashe
and there is NO WAY IN HELL anyone would get away with doing that. We poll workers watch the machines like hawks. Also, at the end of the day the signatures in the book and the number of votes MUST AGREE, or else they will KNOW something's fishy.

There are times when the manual activation must be invoked and it is those times that a poll worker is required to STAND NEXT TO THE MACHINE so that no one can do what you have described.

It could work ONLY if a poll worker let it happen.

Now - I have to tell you - I vote in a church, and the pollworkers LEAVE YOU ALONE after sticking the key in the evote machine. They walk away and sit down - so if this above sequence is correct, someone in a precinct like mine COULD get away with this.

I have already voted absentee - so I cannot (and will not risk jail time) test this.
