OK, Kerry DEFINITELY should have apologized |
|
Because look at where it's gotten us. Now we've got photo-fodder floating around, Dem candidates trying to figure out how to react (some asking for apologies, some defending him), Duers going at each other, and the GOP is lapping it all up. Worst of all, Kerry's not even running for anything this cycle.
While an apology probably would not have been a panacea for all of this (the GOP would still be lapping it up), it would've at least clarified what was going on. All Kerry needed to say was "I was trying to make a joke about George Bush, and it came out horribly wrong. I did not intend for it to be a comment relating to our troops at all, and apologize to them for the goof."
Apologizing for a messed up punchline would not have meant he was apologizing for his stance on the war or anything, just that he got tongue-tied.

5. Yeah, but not right off the bat... |
|
There was enough time for Senators and other folks to start penning letters asking him to apologize. And today's thing on Imus was pretty much lost in the fury of reporting it. His first statement rocked, but that's when it should've happened.

7. Yes- we should apologize quicker the next time the GOP lies about us. |
|
And we should account for the fact that other DEM "leaders" will go with Rove's spin instead of helping the other DEM to fight it.
Until DEMS are unified in fighting media propaganda, it is lose-lose whether you apologize or not.
In any event, Kerry apologized for causing the GOP/media to lie about him, so we should all be happy now.
