What media source started the Kerry attack? Here's why I ask:
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 05:23 PM by ripple
This is the text of the actual speech Kerry delivered. Please note the "us" in the last sentence. How in the hell was that particular statement interpreted as meaning anyone BUT Bush?

“It's great to be here with college students. I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”

http://www.c-span.org/resources/kerry10302006.asp

This smacks of a deliberate effort to defame Kerry. Think about it: they haven't had any luck gaining ground on their own merits (no surprise), they know that polls show Iraq is high on the list of concerns for voters, and they know they had some success with smearing Kerry's reputation before- largely by painting him as unpatriotic.

Does anyone else have a better explanation for essentially every MSM source distorting Kerry's statement?

And BTW, I apologize for yet another thread on this already overblown and overly-discussed topic. I just think it's important for everyone to know what he actually said, rather than what the MSM is claiming he said. Hopefully, the apology will make the media finally simmer down (once they've played it over and freaking over again), but it's deeply disturbing that they reported it at all in the context that they did.

1. Text is not actual comment.
I understand that this was his intended message, but he did not say this. He missed the word "us." So the MSM is reporting the actual words instead of his scripted message.

13. The media gets the scripts ahead of time
I may even have it in my email, I'm not on my computer right now. Chris Matthews said yesterday he got a flurry of press releases, but he also had an AP article and knew it was being misinterpreted.

This was absolutely orchestrated, no question about it. And our own Dems knew it too and didn't do jack to stop it.

2. that's the issued text of Kerry's intended speech
unfortunately Kerry flubbed and missed saying "us". But that this text that was issued BEFORE the speech makes it absolutely clear that Kerry was talking about bush.

3. Hey, as long as you're supporting Kerry, post away. It's the posts from
the asslicking "Republicrats" on this board that I dislike.

4. My understanding is it really got started when
a Faux reporter asked Tony Snow Job about what Kerry had said at a press conference and then Snow Job was all indignant and they I guess "they" rewrote the idiot in chiefs talk in GA where he proceeded to bash Kerry and then yesterday Kerry came out in his own press conference and let them have it for misrepresenting what he said and the rest is history (I hope)

So maybe the Faux reporter was set up to ask Snow Job and they manufactured the whole friggin thing... which is exactly why the IDIOT Dems should have backed up Kerry and stand up to these PUNKS.

14. Here
I'm not on my computer or I'd view it myself. This was at 10:00 yesterday morning - that's when I remember it going wild. Who asked the question?

and I didn't hear the word "us" - and that was the audio playing on Ed Schultz's show. Maybe Kerry elided a bit?

9. I think, that...
the 'media', chooses subject matter...be it the 'Dean Scream', or the 'missing white girl' that is either neutral or pro-business. I really think that much of the content of any evening news program is written by ad-agency's...or industry reps. A study, that finds that beef is bad, but chicken is good...then later chicken is good but seafood is bad...providing the subtle touch to move money in a certain direction. Any story that reflects poorly on the industry's tied into the media's pocket, is distorted ever so slightly to give an impression other than the reality. Sometimes it seems that it doesn't matter what 'other' is, as long as it deflects the truth. Kerry is our missing white girl.

15. But if they had the speech
And they usually do, then all anybody in the media had to do was check it against their pre-release. Meaning they knew the truth - and chose to spin it anyway. I expect that from the White House - but the media isn't supposed to do that.

17. True, but we already knew that the media is no friend of Democrats.
They are yammering on Kerry's apology know. If he hadn't, they'd be yammering about his lack of apology. Either way, they keep the focus on Kerry and off the Republicans.

16. John Ziegler of KFI in Los Angeles is claiming credit for picking it up
About 55 minutes ago I saw him on Faux Noise Channel's "The Big Story" bragging about how he saw it on broadcast on one local station. He picked it up on YouTube (not sure how it got there) then he spread it around the right-wing Kool-Aid pool (Michelle Malkin, Drudge - the usual suspects).

I saw the clip played on TV ad infinitum - I'm afraid I didn't hear the word "us". In these days of YouTube, blogs, etc, policitians have to be perfect, and they have to have their delivery perfect. Too much is at stake.
