The International Documentary Association annouced its finalists for Doc of the Year today.
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 05:09 PM by GumboYaYa
My film, Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?, is one of the five nominees from over 300 documentary films made worldwide this year.

http://www.documentary.org/

Ecstatic is a modest term to describe how I feel right now. This movie is a labor of love. The amount of work it took to get here is almost indescribable.

We made the film because we believe that the political process in America is broken, but we, the voters, hold the power to fix it. Sound familiar to all my fellow Howard Dean supporters? It is so exciting to see this happening b/c every award, every bit of press pushes the movie out to more people who may end up getting involved in politics and making a difference in the world.

Sorry for this pure vanity post, but I had to tell you guys right away and I am just bubbling with excitement.

Go Cards. Are you in St. Louis? If so, the film is playing as part of the Webster Film Series coming soon.

16. THank you.
I had to keep poinching myself last night to be sure it was real. Less than a year ago we thought no one would ever see the film.

19. We screened in LA last night for the Directors, Writers and Producers Guilds
We are working on anoother screening at the AFI theater there. I think this nomination will ensure that it gets done. If we set a date, I will let you know.

21. Nice. If you screen for the editor's guild I'll go to that one. :)

I don't know where you're from so I don't know if you know about this already, but you should contact the radio station kpfk out here. www.kpfk.org They have a film club and they would probably screen it for you. It would be for a lefty audience of people who get the film club preumium when they donate to the station and could help with word of mouth. Hm... kcrw also has a film club. I don't know how it works though.

22. I wish I had thought to include the editors guild.
I am just learning about all of this industry stuff.

Thanks for the lead on the radio station. I found out last night that it will also screen in LA on Dec. 9th as part of the IDA Awards.

Most important is the good that the film will do.
