Happy dance! Happy dance! Malloy podcasts are up NOW!
http://novamnetwork.com/podcasts/malloy/malloy.xml

They have separate files for each hour, but I can deal with it. 10/30 and 10/31's shows are up now. I'm curious to see how fast the show gets up tonight!

My Pod is now a truthseeking device again!

6. Only some web browsers understand podcasts
And I'm pretty sure MSIE 6 doesn't. With Firefox 1.5+ you can use "live bookmark". Firefox 2.0 should recognize it.

But I think the best way to listen to podcasts is to use podcast software such as iTunes.

17. IE7 works great with podcasts
Recognized the page right away.

The thing I like best about IE7 is it's a convenient way to organize my podcasts without opening up iTunes.

3. Good deal, thanks. hourlong threads are ideal for 3G iPods,
with that screwy advance button that can send you back to the beginning of the 3hour long file, for no reason

5. Ohhh, is that what it's all about????
I'm such a dumbshit, I just thought it was a glitch in my system. I've been podcasting Stephanie Miller for about a month and that's how hers work.

For those that don't have ITunes or a pod, you can still download all podcasts into Quick Time and listen to them on your desktop. It's great to have 'em in the car, tho!

I remember the days when I had a reel to reel tape recorder and would tape my favourite songs with a surface mike!!! I gotta say, as much as I hate the 21st century for its politics and social de-volution, the technology is awesome.

21. I have been grabbing her stream with AudioHijack Pro (which is free w/site reg.)
and when I had a 3 hr long resulting file, if I paused for some reason or wanted to advance through commercials, that touchy little button on the 3G model might advance or might send me back to the beginning, ya never knew. 4G iPods have a better, improved mechanism for fastforwarding.

9. The files are in master quality, too!
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 07:19 PM by CaseyBuck
However, they are encoded at 128 kbps, so each hour is 34 MB; dial-up users will be out of luck. They would save a lot of space and bandwidth if they encoded it at 32 or 48 kbps.

But I'm definitely not complaining! :D

It works perfectly in iTunes; just choose "Subscribe to Podcast…" in the Advanced menu, and paste the link. And in Safari, you can manually download the MP3's.

18. I think 128K is a bit excessive
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 09:36 PM by Fighting Irish
Sounds great, but for talk radio, 48K or 64K would work just fine without taking up so much space.

The White Rose ones were 32K, I believe, and the whole three hour show took up roughly 30MB.

I do like that they're in three parts. Muchas grassyass to Ben Burch and the gang!

15. If you upgrade your browser to version 2.0 of Firefox...
which, I believe, runs a-ok in Win98, you should see the links.

Here's the firefox site:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

(if you're not running Firefox as your default browser already, you probably should.)

Once you've got that up, try the link again. You should see links to various mp3 files.

Right click on the file and choose "save link as." You can just save it to your desktop if you like.

Once saved, you can double-click on the file and it'll open in either Windows Media player or whatever your PC uses to play these audio files.

Hope that helps.

I don't mind the separate downloads either. That's what Stephanie Miller does.

20. You can subscribe to a podcast through iTunes.
Under the "Advanced" menu, select "Subscribe to Podcast," then enter the address of the Malloy feed in the URL window. iTunes will regularly check the feed at that address, and download the new files right into iTunes.

22. Here's the feed ...
feed://novamnetwork.com/podcasts/malloy/malloy.xml

Copy/paste the string above in iTunes. Choose the Advanced menu. Select Subscribe to Podtcast... When the dialog appears, paste the above string into the text box. When you save it, iTunes will start to download them. iTunes will also check for new episodes and then download according to your Preference settings.

Hope this helps.
