Back in the day when you drove with the windows open, and clean air blew through your hair

Back in the day when a bunch of us, teenagers all, chipped in to buy a buck's worth of gas -- which would take you to the city and back, with some to spare

Back in the day when you could blast the radio, and didn't have to keep changing the station to avoid the propaganda, or the hatred being spewed

Back in the day when your friend's kid, your neigbour's kid, anybody's kid, wasn't dying on the other side of the world for a purpose no one could explain, for a goal no one could define

I don't drive a car now ... but I used to, back in the day.

I wish my kids could know what it was like back then - what it was like to enjoy driving a car. What is was like to enjoy all kinds of things that no longer exist.

But I don't drive a car now.
