Lieberman aggressively pursues GOP votes
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 02:02 AM by ECH1969
Sen. Joe Lieberman alienated plenty of Democrats with his independent bid. Just imagine their anger if he costs them control of the House.
"There‘s resentment on a lot of people‘s parts," said Richard Smith, Democratic town committee chairman in Milford, a New Haven suburb. "There‘s something about the American character. We love a good fight, but we also love people who play by the rules. C‘mon Joe, you‘re a Democrat or you‘re not a Democrat. Sometimes, self-interest takes the day."

Lieberman has the support of 70 percent of Republicans and 58 percent of independents, according to an Oct. 20 Quinnipiac University survey. Republican Alan Schlesinger trailed far behind in single digits in the head-to-head matchup. "It does help me," Shays said in a recent interview. "I know there will be a lot of Republicans who will vote for him, as well as a lot of independents and Democrats. ... Joe is the kind of person who reaches across the political divide, and I am like that as well."

"Lieberman has a lot of Republican support and that should help the other races," said Charles Flynn Jr., a Republican and former Norwalk city councilor.

7. Wonder how all those heavy-hitting DLC types will feel
if those three repukes ride Joementum's coattails to victory?!

Then again, even if all three win, that alone is unlikely to stop us from taking the House at this point. The Senate is of more concern to me -- especially if Joementum pulls a reverse-Jeffords. Of course he says he won't -- but do you believe him? :eyes:

8. He'll turn Repub...or "Independent"
The Republicans have been financing and supporting his candadicy. Do you think there'll be no payback expectations? Besides, Joe will leap into the heaving bosom of whoever offers him the most seniority/committee seats, and I think the Republicans are prepared to do that.

ESPECIALLY if the Dems win the Senate....there'll be a LOT of pressure on Joe from the Repubs to switch sides, both from what he owes them for his "victory" and from his own selfish greed. And he'll do it. Oh, not right away, but give him an great offer and he'll switch.
