OK, just to Re-Cap, The JOKE Is: "Stay in School or you could be President"

"And end up (taking us) in Iraq."

Leno recently botched the joke in the same way Kerry
did. He got booed. He asked for a rimshot, said it
came out right in rehearsal, and moved on. End of story.

See, Clinton, Ford et al. may not be aware that Kerry
and Leno have been using this joke for YEARS.

It is an EXCELLENT joke that the wealthy, Beltway pink tutu dems,
who lack a taste for comedy or rhetoric, don't find funny, so they
didn't remember it.

Maybe because THEY would have taken us into Iraq or because they
refuse to call out fellow member of their social class (the rich)
for being uneducated,

which is a big no-no in affluent circles.

Because HALF of them in all the upper-echelon professions
(excepting the hated academia and science) probably faked their way
into highly skilled high-paid positions.

Kerry's been using it on the stump for some
time now, so has Leno. And Letterman.

It's a WONDERFUL joke, but it has to be told right so people know it
is about Bush.

NOT EVEN Rumsfeld or some unspecified officer.

Most people who are genuinely stupid or uneducated don't find it all that funny, unfortunately.

but fortunately that includes very few of our troops, who are the
best educated in the world and understand perfectly well that the
joke refers to the commander-in-chief.

But many liberal bloggers, liberal talk radio listeners, and people like me, have not been apprised of the context or reminded of the INTENT of Kerry's remarks. "Even if he was making a comment about troop morale, it was in bad taste." well guess what, they don't understand the joke and are misconstruing Kerry's intent. How does this hurt Kerry in '08?

Has he lost the "dumb as a stump" vote or the "no sense of humor" vote
or has he lost the vote of millions of Democrats because senior Dems failed to explain the joke? just like senior Dems failed to explain why Kerry couldn't have legally contested the results even if it was stolen, because of Carville's and Blackwell's actions? It suits their interests to keep people like ME in the dark as long as possible. As someone who remembers the original joke and thought it was one of the most cutting remarks of 2004, I feel personally offended that nobody has gone out there in the media and reminded us all of Kerry's actual joke about Bush redefining qualifications for public office.

Leno has used it a number of times and botched it occasionally in the same way Kerry did.

He's also botched ethnic jokes, too. Everyone gets it. I messed up the joke, you know what I meant, Etc. etc.

Where was Hillary? She should have denounced him (Leno.)

1. No replies? I realize this is a dead issue, but I don't think most DUers realize
They just lost a powerful stump-speech joke.

AAR talkers are still unaware of the joke they just lost,
as far as I can tell. Mumbling about how you have to
take it the way your audience can take it because everything
is relative to the listener, etc. is just bull shit.

If they understood what a great joke they just lost, they might
try to rehabilitate it, not run from it. Like I said, Leno's
been using this joke for years, he picked it up FROM Kerry.

2. Oh well, I guess folks are just gonna run from Kerry and not care about
losing a great meme. Better to change the subject and ask him to
apologize when you never apologize for a botched joke, especially
when it's a good joke poorly told.
