7. Who won the Congressional elections in 1980, though?
Here's a hint: it WASN'T the party that senile old actor belonged to.

10. Ummm...
You sure?

"When Carter lost in 1980 the Senate went Republican for the first time in 26 years, with Republicans gaining 12 Senate seats and 34 House seats."

15. 97th Congress, elected in 1980:
The House of Representatives consisted of 242 Democrats, 191 Republicans, and 1 independent (Congress isn't JUST the Senate, you know). The Republicans held a 53-46 advantage in the Senate (again, 1 independent).

19. Actually in 1980 Democrats won 54% of the Senate votes.
The reason the Republicans won the Senate in 1980 was that they were winning elections in states like South Dakota and Wyoming while Democrats were winning Senate elections in California and Ohio. A clear majority voted for Democratic control of the Senate that year--the Republican victory was a geographic fluke.

3. The Saddam verdict is supposed to be the October surprise
Edited on Wed Nov-01-06 10:32 PM by Gman
but it will come across as very lame and desperate in light of these numbers.

And almost 70% think Bush has no plan for Iraq? How stupid can 70% be?? The plan, as Randi so eloquently elucidated, is to continue laundering as much US Treasury money as they can and funneling it into Bushie bank accounts.

No reason that Saddam shouldn't get The Verdict of Unintended Effects.

If you know what I mean.

20. SURR-PRII-ISE!! Nobody gives a shit.
I'd almost doubt that there ever was an October surprise if this is all they got. Dammit, if terrorists don't attack us in the next five days I'm going to totally lay off Karl Rove.

14. Additionally, this poll was taken THROUGHT LAST NIGHT
So it caught some of the heat of the Kerry flap, which did not seem to affect numbers at all.

17. Thanks for posting this!
Interestingly, 69% say that they believe the pResident still doesn't have a plan for Iraq. Why then, has James Baker made the decision to wait until after the election to publicize his group's recommendations for remedying the Iraq situation?

22. I'll go them one better . . .
I predict that the actual (real) vote in this election will reflect the greatest Democratic landslide since Lyndon Baines Johnson was swept into the White House in 1964 -- and carried Democrats across the nation with him . . .

I also predict, however, that there will be massive election fraud in states across the nation that will greatly diminish what are reported as the "official" results . . . but not enough to keep us from taking control of at least the House, and possibly the Senate . . .

because THAT's how big our margin will be . . . so big that even their best (or, more precisely, worst) efforts won't be sufficient for them to maintain control of Congress . . .

because people are pissed . . . I'm pissed, you're pissed, your neighbors are pissed, everyone's pissed (save the neocon diehards whose numbers diminish by the day) . . . and when people are pissed, they vote . . . and their votes will be as much against Republicans as for Democrats (different motive, same result) . . .

and if we somehow don't win control of either house, it will only prove that the fraud is more massive than we could possibly imagine . . . and that the system is truly beyond salvation . . .
