Top ten signs that election 06 is driving you crazy
1. You have the only political lawn signs on your block--the neighbors are considering chipping in to buy your house and remove this blight on the community.

2. You planned to carve George Bush and Dick Cheney jack o lanterns but never got around to it because you wanted to catch a debate between two Senate candidates in some state thousands of miles from where you actually live.

3. You catch friends and family members frantically gesturing behind your back to someone who has innocently started a political discussion with you.

4. Your dining room table is full of more campaign literature than you could ever distribute--you assure your significant other that you will get it out of the house before Thanksgiving.

5. Anyone examining your in box would conclude that your very best friend in the whole wide world was named Howard Dean.

6. When your significant other comes in the door and asks you "what's happening" you have to restrain yourself from ranting about the latest news from the campaign trail.

7. You are unable to watch George Bush without screaming invective at the TV. You are afraid that some day you will blurt out something like "Lying Scumbag" in some right wing sports bar. You wonder if your medical insurance would cover the incident. You notice that your significant other is trying to keep you out of public places.

8. You agonize over whether or not you should purchase a bottle of champagne to celebrate on election night. You decide that it would be foolish to do so--after all deep down inside you know that that $12.00 bottle of Korbels you shelled out for after seeing the exit polls in 2004 started the chain of events that lead to Bush's dubious victory.

9. Your evening schedule goes something like this. 5:30 Start dinner--catch the end of the Situation Room. 6:00 Time for Lou Dobbs--Dammit why is he talking about illegal aliens again? 7:00 Tweety time, did he take his medication tonight? 8:00 Countdown can't miss Keith. 9:00 See if Scarborough has any good guests, if not hit the computer and see what they're talking about on DU. 10:00 Catch up on a little reading and try to stay up for the Daily Show. 11:00 Significant other turns off the TV, computer and makes a note to call his lawyer about those divorce papers.

10. You have become so partisan that you have a bumper sticker on your car for a candidate who you secretly think probably IS a crook like his opponent asserts, but you are supporting the guy anyway because his election will give George W. Bush a very bad day.

3. Great list
Did you make it? Last night I was so crazy mad about the attack on Kerry that I need a glass of wine to cool down, and then felt much better after watching Keith's rant. I will only watch snippets of Wolfie, Lou, and Tweety, but I can only watch Joe is he has an interesting story like the Mccartney divorce.

12. Honorable mention: Your "ignore thread" list has ballooned dramatically and
you have to tell every single last op you are ignoring them. Irony lost on yourself, you spend more time doing this than canvasing your neighborhood for your candidate(s) of choice.

I think the majority of your list is relevant to me. Thanks for the giggles.

Wandering around like one of those Japanese soldiers, you know, the guys on those deserted islands who didn't know the war was over until years later.

Of course there's always 2008.

19. How closely do you have to be to qualify?
my responses have been "emboldened"

1. You have the only political lawn signs on your block--the neighbors are considering chipping in to buy your house and remove this blight on the community. ( If there were more traffic on the street, I would have a sign up - how many bumperstickers on a car would qualify in this item? I have 5)

2. You planned to carve George Bush and Dick Cheney jack o lanterns but never got around to it because you wanted to catch a debate between two Senate candidates in some state thousands of miles from where you actually live. (Actually, I had pumpkin designs for a mummy and a dragon, but no, didn't do them this year because I did want to catch a debate on the tube...)

3. You catch friends and family members frantically gesturing behind your back to someone who has innocently started a political discussion with you.
(all the time)

4. Your dining room table is full of more campaign literature than you could ever distribute--you assure your significant other that you will get it out of the house before Thanksgiving. (it's separated in piles - Dem literature is in file folders, repub literature is in the kindling box to use for starting up the wood stove)

5. Anyone examining your in box would conclude that your very best friend in the whole wide world was named Howard Dean. (among many other Dems)

6. When your significant other comes in the door and asks you "what's happening" you have to restrain yourself from ranting about the latest news from the campaign trail. (she no longer asks)

7. You are unable to watch George Bush without screaming invective at the TV. You are afraid that some day you will blurt out something like "Lying Scumbag" in some right wing sports bar. You wonder if your medical insurance would cover the incident. You notice that your significant other is trying to keep you out of public places. (don't go to bars, just not a bar person. but, I'm frequnetly kicked under the table at restaurants by my partner)

(have already put in for Wed. 11/8 off, told my partner that I will be flipping channels through the night)

(actual schedule: 3pm arrive home, flip on CNN, turn up the volume so I can hear it while doing immediate chores, feeding pets. 3:30-4pm go on-line, check what I've missed since leaving work. 4pm fix/eat supper while channel surfing between c-span/cnn/msnbc and Charmed re-runs 6pm - check out Lou Dobbs, channel surf through news channels. 7pm - 8pm more channel surfing. 8pm - if my partner has nothing she HAS to watch, I check out KO. Usually fall asleep by then since I get up at 3:am)

10. You have become so partisan that you have a bumper sticker on your car for a candidate who you secretly think probably IS a crook like his opponent asserts, but you are supporting the guy anyway because his election will give George W. Bush a very bad day. (1/2 right - I'll support ALMOST anyone who will give bush an EXTREMELY BAD WEEK)

29. I'm going to need it
I have my toons set up on SherpaComics through Monday 11/6 ( http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwc )

I'm not sure what to run for Tuesday 11/7.. and I'm in a quandry about how to handle Wednesday 11/8's toon

I have one ready, but I don't know if it will be relevant - depends on the election outcome. I'm working on an alternative, if the worst happens. I usually load the toons 1-2 days prior to publication.

but with the election - it's sort of floating in air.

38. Au contraire mon ami
A few years ago I would have never put any general election candidate's bumper sticker on my car although it was always festooned with cause stickers. If I didn't have a candidate I could believe in I'd sometimes vote 3rd party.

In 2000 I considered voting for Nader but decided to pull the lever for Gore when I realized what we'd be getting with Bush--I'm glad I did.

In 2004, for the first time I volunteered to work on the Democratic campeign. I'd always liked John Kerry and though I thought Dean got a raw deal and was not thrilled with his vote for the war, it was more important to get Bush out of office before he damaged the country any further. I also did bumper stickers and lawn signs canvassing--the whole nine yards.

Now comes the midterms. I absolutely love my Congressman so volunteering on his campeign was easy but I'm not entirely enamored of our state's Senate candidate who has been struggling despite this being a very blue state--heappears to be pulling ahead now. Whatever his personal integrity, and if what they've brought up already is all they have on him, he's probably relatively clean, the guy comes from a political machine that has, shall we say, serious ethical problems. (I'm assuming you've guessed which state this is)

Despite my personal misgivings, I'm supporting the guy wholeheartedly and will be working for him on election day because I want November 8th to be so bad for George Bush that they'll have to show him a DVD of the election results like they did with Hurricane Katrina.

George Bush has turned me into a partisan.
