Is it safe to come back?
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 09:01 AM by trumad
I promised to leave DU until after the election because my blood pressure yesterday was reaching dangerous levels. Scanning the front page on GD, it looks like you know what is yesterdays news. Thank God.

14. Darn it, thought I could ficks it before anyone saw it.
Then forgot which letter I left out - and corrected the wrong letter. I may be highly qualified to star in their next commercial.

Let's hope there's a lifeguard on duty.

19. I think you're safe now
A reading across the board this morning shows me that the infestation from the Kerry bashers has been turned away. Seems we kicked their asses back to the hidey-holes they crawled out of so they could mouth the rovian spin.

Damned rove sock-puppets... they'll be back, but DU will chase them off again.

20. I'm trying to figure out what was THAT about?
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 10:49 AM by marions ghost
Why did DUers take the bait and get so exercized about a blatant rightwing smear campaign against Kerry? Olbermann had the right take on it last night. It's missing the point to get pissed off at Kerry for a gaffe that was twisted. Focus the argument back on them and their pathetic "support of the troops" they give so much lip service to.

Speculation:
Liberals are so keyed up about this election they can't stand for anything to burst the bubble of fervent desire that the Dems will get voted in despite Diebold. Well this is how the Rethugs fight y'know-- underhanded, dirty, lying, cheating--the ends always justify the means. By the time they get through spinning it, the gaffe has grown wings and mutated several times. But over-reacting just adds fuel to their fire. Obviously Bush vs. Kerry causes bad flashbacks on the eve of another election left incredibly vulnerable to vote manipulation. That's enough to make anyone have a short fuse and look for a way to discharge some anxiety. As for the reasons why this ridiculous thing "sold" so well to rightwingers, I also see that as a psychological defense. Think of how bad it feels now to have supported the Rethuglicans. ANYthing that can make them feel better, that they weren't so wrong, wrong, wrong, they will jump at. They would rather think they 'at least' made the right choice not to select Kerry. They'll stick with the team, even though the quarterback has failed miserably. Understandably there is huge loss of face after being completely bamboozled by the corrupt Republican party. But it can't be so bad that they should reject the party. Then they'd be homeless. These people desperately need to believe the party spokespeople and the media. Otherwise, they'd have to face what we've already faced--we have a real mess on our hands.

I'm not interested in the Kerry debate further. I wasn't interested in the first place. But I am interested in how it is that Liberals (fanned by gangs of disrupters) will eat each other up over such an obvious Rethuglican ploy? Whole lotta anxiety out there. This is the reaction of a completely downtrodden, disenfranchised, abused population of Liberals and liberal Democrats. I don't ask people not to feel what they feel, and react as they feel--I'm just saying that IMO this reflects the degree of oppression we are experiencing as a group.

Couldn't resist. Also have to add, some of the crap on here about Kerry was near as stupid as the media. (And I'm not even a big Kerry ho like I was) It all makes me want a cigarette. Oh and Bev Harris is on HBO tonight. Party!
