Another RW hypocrite...

Ted Haggard of Colorado Springs accused of three-year relationship
By Paula Woodward
9News Investigative Reporter
and Manny Gonzales
Denver Post Staff Writer

Ted Haggard said he's not sure if the claim is election-year politics. The leader of one of Colorado's most popular mega-churches, Ted Haggard, said his church would investigate allegations from a male prostitute that Haggard solicited gay sex, 9News reported Wednesday.

Haggard, the founder and senior leader of the 14,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs and president of the multimillion- member National Association of Evangelicals, denied the accusations raised by the prostitute to KUSA- Channel 9. But the pastor said he is prepared for his own church to investigate the claims.

Male escort Mike Jones of Denver started talking to 9 Wants to Know two months ago, making claims that he has had a three-year sexual business relationship with Haggard, the station reported.

Jones went public about their alleged relationship Wednesday morning on talk radio.

1. Kind of ironic, yes?
The party what seems to be the most homophobic ~~ the Repukes ~~ and supposedly supports all these "family value" people who are so terribly anti-gay marriage, seems to have someone outed as being gay almost each day.

It's getting to be like the Repukes and the fundies are a convenient group to gather in if someone wishes to hide something he/she cannot be honest about.

4. In an odd way, it sorta makes sense
He has homosexual urges, considers them to be sinful and thus wants the government to make it illegal to keep him from fulfilling his own desires, so he won't go to hell.

It makes 'sense' in a republican sort of way.

9. That Is It In A Nut-Shell, Sir
The claim is always that they wish to protect others, children, the family, moral order, what have you, but the target is always themselves. They wish external support against their own urges, for they fear or know they are weak against them.

15. Yep, it probably does makes sense...
...they cannot deal with who they really are and need the external forces to make them be something they are not.

Sick and sad, IMO.

7. Reaction Formation - textbook example
http://changingminds.org/explanations/behaviors/coping/reaction_formation.htm

Description

Reaction Formation occurs when a person feels an urge to do or say something and then actually does or says something that is effectively the opposite of what they really want. It also appears as a defense against a feared social punishment. If I fear that I will be criticized for something, I very visibly act in a way that shows I am personally a long way from the feared position.

A common pattern in Reaction Formation is where the person uses ‘excessive behavior’, for example using exaggerated friendliness when the person is actually feeling unfriendly.

Example

A person who is angry with a colleague actually ends up being particularly courteous and friendly towards them.

A man who is gay has a number of conspicuous heterosexual affairs and openly criticizes gays.

A mother who has a child she does not want becomes very protective of the child.

An alcoholic extols the virtues of abstinence.

29. Good, but I also like the DU explanation
It was once said around these here parts that many Republicans are lacking an 'inner rulebook'. Afraid of what they would become in the absence of external morality enforcement.

35. I think this explains Phred Phelps too
There have been rumors for years about Fred sexually abusing his boys.

If they're not holding harassing signs saying, 'God Hates Fags', calling deaf old dowagers 'sodomite whores', or bristling at startled churchgoers, Fred's kids are back at home being model parents and neighbors, attending PTOs and Clinton coronations. The stark contrast of the two masks-decent and repulsive, hateful and considerate, forthright and devious, stupid and clever-creates a polarity that begins to weigh on the observer. Contrasts frequently are the visible edge of contradiction. And contradictions sometimes arise from very deep and secret undercurrents. Currents of pain. http://www.addictedtohate.com/

within the first two pages of dobsons book, they gave a biography of the man. in the middle of the first paragraph of bio it was written dobson was a "mans man". i busted up laughing. i live amongst LOTS of mans men..... and i assure you,not a single mans man would feel the need to declare they are mans men. just wouldnt be done. would almost being saying you are not.

just some info.

without any one even having asked. Dobson is a really strange guy. I think he just better compensated than a Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker.

8. This Keeps Playing In My Head...
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 09:47 AM by KharmaTrain
You see the face on the tv screen
Coming at you every sunday
See that face on the billboard
That man is me

On the cover of the magazine
Theres no question why Im smiling
You buy a piece of paradise
You buy a piece of me

Ill get you everything you wanted
Ill get you everything you need
Dont need to believe in hereafter
Just believe in me

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
And hes been telling me
Everything is alright

I believe in the family
With my ever loving wife beside me
But she dont know about my girlfriend
Or the man I met last night

Do you believe in god
Cos thats what Im selling
And if you wanna get to heaven
Ill see you right

You wont even have to leave your house
Or get outta your chair
You dont even have to touch that dial
Cos Im everywhere

And jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright

Wont find me practising what Im preaching
Wont find me making no sacrifice
But I can get you a pocketful of miracles
If you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
Just do as I say, dont do as I do

Im counting my blessings,
Ive found true happiness
Cos Im getting richer, day by day
You can find me in the phone book,
Just call my toll free number
You can do it anyway you want
Just do it right away

Therell be no doubt in your mind
Youll believe everything Im saying
If you wanna get closer to him
Get on your knees and start paying

Cos jesus he knows me
And he knows Im right
Ive been talking to jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows Im right
Well hes been telling me
Everythings gonna be alright, alright

Jesus he knows me
Jesus he knows me, you know...

14. Genesis nailed it with that tune...
I don't care for much of their stuff after they went pop, but We Can't Dance has some great songs on it. That's one of them. Actually, they seem to touch their prog roots on a couple tunes, especially Fading Lights. Just a sidebar...

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this is true, it almost seems par for the course. It's quite sad, actually...

17. A Fine Finale
That final album was vastly under-rated...probably because of their previous pop success and the world had had enough of Phil Collins by 1993.

I first saw them on the "Lamb" tour in '74 and the Steve Hackett albums...Winding & Wuthering & Trick Of The Tail remain my faves.

Cheers...

26. When I read who the pastor was...
I wasn't surprised at all -- Haggard has had me pinging for years now. I am a second generation Hag who was born and raised in SF -- my gaydar is finely tuned. :D

If this escort has had a three year-long business relationship with Haggard there very well might be a very healthy paper trail to make the case.

If this is true, I hope Haggard goes down in flames. No pun intended.

22. I don't know about this
Right now all we have are unsubstantiated claims by a gay escort. I actually hope this isn't true, because I don't want to have to see the aftermath of the heads exploding throughout my neighborhood, which is 3 minutes from Haggard's church.

I don't want to rush to judgement.
