1. Each show is three files, one per hour.
Make sure your podcatcher/iTunes is configured to download the three most recent, not the one most recent.

6. I'm not entirely sure.
I use RSS Radio as my podcatcher, which can download individual files as well as send them to Windows Media Player.

You don't need to have links E-Mailed each day; just enter the .xml address (the link to the podcast feed) into your podcatcher or player, and it will check it regularly for updates.

9. Another question from a podcast novice:
are the podcasts available AFTER the broadcast, or can only be downloaded during the broadcast?

8. Nova m needs a lowQ
bandwidth 16k option like AA. The Nova stream clips badly with dialup,
and those 40 min podcasts will cost you around 2 1/2 hours to download each one with Itunes. I hope Ben will post up some mp3 files, those are dialup do-able.

11. I'll pass this along.
NovaM is controlling the podcasts and they are asking for feedback, Ben is helping with the tech side.

16. I downloaded the
the 10/31 first hour this morning (ITunes podcast) and It took several
hours. I was surprised when it was only 40 minutes worth, I thought it would be the whole show. I tried getting the second and third hours but both failed. With Mp3's and dialup you can copy and paste mp3 into real player, give it some buffer lead and start listening within 5 minutes without much clipping.

128K sounds amazing (sounds like it's straight from the board) but it is a bit excessive. Files of this size do take up an obscene amount of room.

For talk radio, a 48-64K bitrate makes just as much sense. Even a 24-32K bitrate file for dial-uppers or people who want to conserve on space seems pretty reasonable (the old WRS Malloy shows were 32K, I believe, and the whole show was only around 30MB or so).

Nonetheless, KyndCulture, send my regards to Ben and the gang. The podcasts sound great!

13. Once you download the podcast you have to manually import it
into iTunes. Hold down the control key, click on the link to the MP3 file, 'download the linked file' to a designated folder, then drag it onto iTunes. I suggest setting up a playlist in iTunes, then highlight it thus opening it in the main iTunes window, then drag the MP3 files onto that window. Voila! Now you can put them in order as you see fit.

Hopefully, NovaM will set up a podcast directory with Apple so we will then be able to suscribe to the podcasts and have them download automatically.

Setting up a playlist in iTunes is very simple. Just click the "+" symbol in the bottom-left corner of the iTunes window and type in the name.

18. A little iTunes troubleshooting guide
Edited on Thu Nov-02-06 02:42 PM by CaseyBuck
(This is assuming you have iTunes 7; this should work the same for Mac and Windows)

First of all, under the Podcasts preferences screen, under "When new episodes are available", select "Download All" from the pop-up menu. Also, under "Keep:", make sure you select "All Episodes", otherwise they will start to disappear after a few nights.

Then to make the podcasts show up, choose "Subscribe to Podcast…" from the Advanced menu. Paste in the podcast link, and it should show up in the Podcasts section. If any are dimmed, click the "Get" button, and it should download, and eventually show up.

By the way, last night's show was up, commercial-free, 45 minutes after Mike signed off. Nice work!

The novaM people are great with customer service, at least on the podcasting side. Good work, folks!
