Do the Democrats need to focus more resources out West? |
|
Perhaps it is simple propaganda, but the "media" is reporting that Conrad Burns has gained ground in the last few days and is within shot of keeping that seat. And today, George Bush is there to embrace Senator Burns. Will the good Senator show up and will it help or hurt him to be on the same stage with George W Bush. The polls after this visit will be interesting.
Montana was almost a sure shot for Democrats just a couple of months ago. Should they return to that state in these last few days? And should they devote more money to Arizona, since that race has now gone into single digits, in favor of Senator Jon Kyl?
And should they try to secure the VA seat for Jim Webb? That seems to be the best shot for us to pick up an unexpected seat. If we can beat Santorum in PA and Dewine in OH, and pick up the seat in MO and VA, then MT and AZ would be gravey on the potatoes. Harold Ford in Tennessee is still highly unpredictable. Where should we put our money in the next 2 or 3 days?

1. I Think The Resources Are Taking Care of the West Just Fine |
|
There's the drought which has raged for years, even to Seattle, where it's supposed to rain 9 months out of the year, the wildfires (Bushfires, as they say in Australia) and lack of potable water both made significant by cramming too many people into desert lands, the high cost of EVERYTHING in California, the smog which is creeping eastward and being increased by for-profit coal-burning plants built by Texans, and more.
Yes, I think the West is ready to give up it's Rugged Individualism and come crying home to Mommy Democrat and start talking about co-operation, public health, and other government functions. There's only so much pain even the least sensitive can endure.

2. All the close Senate (etc) races could use some cash, |
|
I suspect.
And if the money has to be borrowed (on some level), so be it, I say.
In this day, few (anywhere-near) competitive races can be considered as being in-the-bag, because many voters have rather poor decision-making capabilities (history, trajectory) -- and great susceptibility to marketing and other forms of manipulation.

so that might be a good place to put some money.
But he probably could also use some (more) public assurances (from leadership) of a (particular) committee-seat.
