LANSING, Mich., Nov. 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Michigan American Legion State Commander Roger Webster echoes the national American Legion's acceptance of an apology by Sen. John Kerry for his remark suggesting that American troops in Iraq are uneducated.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Kerry issued a statement which said, "I personally apologize to any servicemember, family member or American who was offended" by comments he made about being "stuck in Iraq."

Webster shares the sentiments of National American Legion Commander Paul A. Morin who states, "On behalf of The American Legion, we accept the senator's apology for his intemperate remark." Webster notes the timing of the senator's apology is most appropriate as it comes on the eve of Veterans Day, a national holiday that he calls on all Michigan residents to celebrate. "It's the least we can do for veterans," he concludes.

5. The American Legion can go fuck themselves.
As a Viet Nam veteran, I'm sure as hell not alone in my contempt for the American Legion. Of the two major veterans' organizations, the American Legion was the worst, by far, in their hostility to returning Viet Nam veterans. In furthering the slander of John Kerry, they're continuing in that despicable 'tradition.' "Intemperate remark"? Go fuck yourself, Paul!

6. Aren't these the same guys who went after Kerry in the '04 election?
I seem to remember they endorsed Bush over their fellow veteran and furthered the Swiftboaters slime attacks - can anyone confirm my memory of that?

I think the Vets of Foreign Wars were much more behind Kerry than this group, or am I recalling this incorrectly?

7. they are definitely pro-Bush
I note the subdued tone of the 'acceptance'. I wonder if there's a concern that the flap will backfire on them. I can think of a few ways that could happen.

8. Being an older person I remember
when the boys came home from Vietnam that the esteemed members of the American Legion were pissed off because we didn't win the war. They would not let them join the Amer. Legion and were obnoxious when these guys tried to work at the Post Office. It was a very sad time in the US and they were part of the unrest. I never liked them and don't now because if you scratch an older AL person today they still harbor resentment at the soldiers and not the Army Leaders.
