Today, The People of Oaxaca Drove off the Federales
We need to learn from them

It may be us at the Barricades soon.

Today 5000 PFP (Mex National Guard) attacked the University radio station
with tear gas, assault weapons, helicopters, ect.

The people surrounded them and drove them off armed with
rocks, sticks, fireworks, and a bunch of homeade gasoline bombs.

The PFP turned tail and ran.

I've been reading realtime english text transcripts of the university radio station
all day, here

http://www.iteration.org/radioappo.txt

Most touching excerpt today?

Breaking: The APPO Wins an Important Battle Against the PFP
By Gregory Berger,
Posted on Thu Nov 2nd, 2006 at 04:19:37 PM EST
The APPO has forced the PFP into a retreat from its attempted incursion into the Benito Juarez University. But the war is far from over.

After a six-hour siege on the Benito Juarez Autonomous University, which is the home Radio Universidad, voice of the APPO, the Federal Preventative Police (PFP) was forced to retreat just moments ago.

As helicopters, tanks, and scores of armed federal police approached the University campus, "la doctora," the now famous host of radio APPO, urged the citizens of Oaxaca to rush to the scene to aid in the defense of the campus and particularly, of the radio station.

Scores of neighbors and students reportedly surround the PFP troops. Simultaneously, APPO supporters in Mexico City marched from the hunger strikers' encampment near the Senate to the offices of the PFP to demand a retreat from the campus.

Mexican law prohibits the incursion of law enforcement into autonomous universities, unless requested by the university rector. The rector of the Benito Juarez University categorically rejects the presence of the PFP and did not give his approval to the agency to enter the campus.

Although it is unclear whether or not the retreat will be followed by a return to the scene tonight, one thing is quite clear at this moment; the APPO has dealt an important blow to the PFP and has proven that they are indeed capable of defeating the invading army.

11. From OSAG 5:04 pm By Max an old (elderly) soldier
Folks,

Just got back from a trip to the Zocallo. The PFP were standingshield to shield on Guerrero just at the west end of the Augustinian church and wouldn't let anybody in. The street between there and the Zocallo was pretty much solid troops, also the only water cannon tank was parked in there. I walked up a block to Hidalgo and had no problem passing through their lines, even tho I was carrying a bag on my shoulder. They asked the Oaqueño in front of me if they could look in his back pack.

Fewer troops in the Z, and they were a bit more subdued today then they have been. Wonder why. I saw no evidence that they were packing up or otherwise preparing to move out, mostly they were having comida. Looked good too, chicken in sauce, rice, beans.

I went over to the aid station and spoke to one of the Corpsmen in my Spanglish, he told me they had had about 15 minor casualties so far today. He was stitching up a cut in one guy's head.

Strolled over by where ther ELZN had their table set up last week because their were some guys there who were obviously troops, but they weren't wearing any body armor, had dark blue, pressed uniforms and looked a little more mature than the others. They were wearing PFP shoulder patches, but they were all together in a little group separate from the others.

After about an hour, I went to the back of the lines on Guerrero to see if they would let me out and they wouldn't, even tho I think they understood me when I told them I lived down Guerrero. he pointed toward Hidalgo and said that was my way out. I pointed in the other direction and then behind me and he said Si and Si I could go out of the Z those ways.

So I walked around and, sure enough, the other seven streets into the zocallo had a few sentries, but were not blocked. As I was exiting down Hidalgo, two platoons in full riot gear came in separately at double time. They were obviously pumped up, you could smell the adrenaline and testosterone on 'em. Just as I was about to pass through the lines Two white vans clearly marked as belonging to the Mexican Human Rights Commission came up Hidalgo and through the barricade into the Zocallo.

21. People are being shot at and killed
It's a crime how the world ignores this...if this was happening in Europe it would be all over the news, everyone would be outraged, and the international community would step in...but these are just a bunch of Mexicans. (sarcasm)

They massacured hundreds of them in 68 and swept it under the rug, who says they couldn't do it now, they way people think?
