Ode to the Democratic Party for the coming election day

You were the party of my Grandparents. They saw hope through you, Franklin Roosevelt, and Harry Truman. They saw you as a beacon of light through their own uncertain days. Time of poverty, times of war, and of unity. You were the party of the voiceless and those who struggled for a better life and a better country. That promise was to be enhanced by worthy men like John and Bobby Kennedy who's brilliance was to be cut by the shedding of their own blood and the silence of their own deaths. Who is to say what America would be like had they only been given a chance at a full life?


That silence and that promise has yet to be realized to this very day. I sometimes feel that you, the Democratic Party of today only care about focus groups, catering to the multinationals, and eager to pretend to be something you are not. Sometime I wonder if you are afraid of your own shadow. Has that old Reagan Republican voodoo still have you in that trance? Are you still afraid of that "L" word? And are you too afraid of not appearing to be patriotic enough? What do you prove to America and Mr. and Mrs. Average American Joe Voter when you play "go along to get along"? What does it say when it comes to The so-called Patriot Act? What are saying when you vote to start an invasion on a country that did nothing to us? What are proving when allowing the Republican- controlled administration to have theocratic activist judges to hold sway on the laws of this land? How can Mr. and Mrs American Voter take you seriously when you try to act "Republican"? Your own true message gets muddled in a sea of your complacency and indifference. This is what turns those who would likely vote for you off.

Fortunately for you, Democratic Party, there are many people out there who still care for you and give a damn and want you to be strong force you once were. People like Howard Dean, Dennis Kucinich, Russ Feingold, Jim McDermott, Mike Malloy, Randi Rhodes, and myself just to name a few of the many. The many that want you to win next week and want you to be tough against the biggest threat this country has ever faced. No. It's not just Al-Qaeda. It's the Republicans and those Bush bullies that now run this country.

Of course you are going to tell me that you are in fact fighting and you had good days with Bill Clinton. Sure you did and much of America was doing great under Clinton but he was DLC. The DLC are not true Democrats. The DLC suckle from the same milk as those nasty Republicans. That milk is from the corporatist and the multinationals. Also, do not forget about that bad Republican named Newt Gingrich and his horde that appeared in 1994. They did you nor Clinton any favors now did they?

So, my dear friend Democratic Party, the time to spar begins again. Please be the party that my Grandparents were proud of once again and fight for us. Have the courage of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Have the straightforwardness of Harry Truman and the passion of both John and Bobby Kennedy. Of course we'll watch your back too, but for your sake and ours just fight!
