White House accused of stalling hunger report
USDA denies figures being delayed until after election

AP - Updated: 36 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Democrats are blaming politics for the Bush administration's decision to wait until after the election to issue a report on hunger in the United States.

The Agriculture Department report has generally been released in October, a month after annual poverty figures are released by the Census Bureau. The report has shown steady increases in the number of people struggling with hunger, from 31 million in 1999 to 38 million in 2004.

Democrats on Wednesday accused the White House of a politically motivated delay. Competitive elections across the country will decide next week whether President Bush's party keeps control of Congress.

USDA officials said the report has long been set for a mid-November release and that the delay is not political.

1. Must Be a Perfectly Ghastly Report, Then
There is no fact that can't be looked in the face, if one is willing to deal with it. Unfortunately, BushCo doesn't do facts.

3. Everything is political to that bunch of scurvy dogs..........
everything is calculated to give them maximum political benefit. Delaying reports critical of the administration? No problem. Rewriting reports to make their point of view seem more plausible? No problem. Coercing Scientists into omitting or revising key points of information in reports? No problem. Lying, cheating, mud slinging and fabricating evidence to get their way about everything? No problem.

We have a problem. Those people who say they represent ALL Americans but do things that benefit only the top 1%.......THEY are the problem. Those that send our sons and daughters off to die for oil.......THEY are the problem.

5 more days. 5 more days until we, the people, DO SOMETHING about our problem! It's time to drain the RepubliCON swamp.

6. Of course this report is late!
Homeland Security just rushed to get their report on the dropping number of illegal border crossings three months early! You can't expect to overload the system with reading material!

9. IT'S NOT ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. This is about
hungry people.

See if you can focus here for a minute!

10. I was making a snide comment about an administration that
rushes though reports that make it thinks make it look good and buries reports high lighting its failures. Personally, I think the entire Department of Homeland Security is a blight on the nation. I agree wholeheartedly that hunger, poor diets and poverty are major problems. It's the reason John Edwards has kept my interest because he seems to be the only politician willing to bring this up.

8. Let me give you a few clues....
We keep our school district cafeterias open to all children during summer school for breakfast and lunch-they do not have to be in summer school, they do not have to meet eligbility. We have plenty of kids walking to our neighborhood school to eat. I worry about what happens in August. Next year we will open later in August. No child should go to bed hungry in this country....but they do!
