5. K &R!
Is there a way that such magnificent photo collections can be classified into a separate category (like the video clips)? These are valuable resources, and I frequently borrow them for usage elsewhere. Also, likewise with those editorial cartoon weekly roundups.

13. Live report
Nancy Davies continues to file live reports from Oaxaca:

"At noon it looks like the troops are landing helicopters on university property to invade the station. Invading an autonomous university is a huge mistake on the part of Fox.

People are gathered and resisting with paint (throwing it on the armored cars), nails on the tires, gasoline (that sounds like fires). The military may be reinforcing, but this has not verified. Human rights observers, anybody with a camera or video should go to the University; people are wounded and are being arrested.

Tear gas is all over Cinco Seρores and the residents are taking to the streets. Tear gas was also used in the morning. Sorriano area at Plaza del Valle is under attack, apparently there's a UABJO building there in the vicinity.

The call is out for everyone to resist.

Shades of 1968"

I don't even have to think which side to support, but when they say non-violence and then they bring out home-made rocket launchers or somesuch, i can't help noticing some discrepancy...

39. Some shall always resort to violence.
While most are in the crowd are peaceful, some will always take matters into their own hands. We live in a violent world and we are not always successful in advocating peace, not even to our own comrades.

That said:
"Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery." - Malcolm X.

When those police come a-knockin', it's good to have a method of self-defense.

52. Many people can't help but become defensive when friends are shot dead...
in the street. This action has been mostly peaceful & effective for the past five months, but last Friday the ante was significantly raised when several protesters were shot & killed, including two journalists covering the movement. Firecrackers vs. bullets, stones vs. armored vehicles, flipjacks vs. helicopters, gasoline bombs vs. federal troops...yup, there's a discrepancy alright.

“One more martyr in a dirty war – One more time to cry and hurt.”
By Brad Will
From the November 1, 2006 issue | Posted in International
Early Dawn, OCY 16

yesterday i went for a walk with the good people of oaxaca – was walking all day really – in the afternoon they showed me where the bullets hit the wall ....
one bullet they didnt number was still in his head.... alejandro garcia hernandez – at the neighborhood barricade every night – that night he came out to join his wife and sons to let an ambulance through – then a pickup tried to follow – he took their bullet when he told them they could not pass – they never did – these military men in civilian dress shot their way out of there

a young man who wanted to only be called marco was with them when the shooting happened – a bullet passed through his shoulder – he was clearly in shock when we met – 19 years old – said he hadnt told his parents yet – said he had been at the barricade every night – said he was going back as soon as the wound closed – absolutely

...what can you say about this movement – this revolutionary moment – you know it is building, growing, shaping – you can feel it – trying desperately for a direct democracy
...waiting for november when he can sit with his loved ones on the day of the dead and share food and drink and a song – waiting for the plaza to turn itself over to him and burst – he will only wait until morning but tonight he is waiting for the governor and his lot to never come back – one more death – one more martyr in a dirty war – one more time to cry and hurt – one more time to know power and its ugly head – one more bullet cracks the night – one more night at the barricades – some keep the fires ....

now he is also dead, and quite a few more.... I did not hear this news on the MSM/TV? Why? They are protesting this around the world, even Istanbal, but here? Let's go shopping.
one more time to cry and hurt? hundreds of thousands more since now that BU**SH** rules

36. it amazes me that the TV news, often still does NOT follow up
on reports even in the mainstream press, so still most people are clueless, but they get some good recipes and celeb gossip.
BU**SH** and other repukes get tons of coverage when they lie and smear, usually without any corrections, but when dems tell the truth about something important they get criticized for using the FACTS politically, as if we have no right to know the truth until AFTER elections (if then

49. Thanks for the pics! Just wanted to let you know that the Boston Rally
for OXaca went reall well last night. About 200 people showed up (most with only a day's notice) for a very spirited show of solidarity. It was mostly unscritted and was filled with spontaneous singing, chanting, rapping and poetry. The croud ranged in age from about 15 to 85 and was blessed to have companieros from Mexico and a rappre from Nigeria. The building that housed the Mexican consulate locked the doors after earlier refusing to tell me if the Mexican Consulate was even IN the building. I was ushered out, making sure to take all the time I needed not to harm the leg that just had surgery! Cats can be VERY slow when they want to be.

not that he matters more than the others- (he would likely feel that way) but he was holding his video camera- They are silent because the current regime in Mexico-is of course the one BU**SH** is backing. http://www.indypendent.org/?p=652 http://cryptome.org/oaxaca-01/oaxaca-01.htm so sad.
