More bizarre personal attacks in one day than in five years
Has anyone noticed that something is going very weirdly haywire here lately? When posting disapproval of Ford's demand for an apology from Kerry, I got attacked by a couple of Ford supporters for being a North Carolinian woman who would vote for Taylor over Shuler. Notwithstanding that I'm a man from Virginia who has never voted Republican in his life. (Lived in NC in 2002 and can't change my handle.) Just now I got attacked for being a homophobic hetero when I've been happily gay since the 1970s. Suspecting that Gannon's client was Bush equates to, well, I don't know what. What the hell is it with all these bizarre and baseless accusations, meaningless hostile gestures? Just on the verge of a glorious victory for the Democrats, I'm feeling totally demoralized about DU and hope someone can offer an explanation of what the hell is going on.

Seems like people are swinging wildly at "the enemy" and willing to brutalize anyone on whom they can project their fantasies. Can't remember it being like this since the 2003 primaries. Maybe it's time to call it a (five year long) day.

1. That's ok, sugar...
I was called a mysogynist... and I'm a straight woman.

There are a lot of Trolls about... post counts in the 1000 range, but a very short gestation period.

;)

Just goes to show you how desperate "those people" are getting!

2. I hear ya
Don't let it discourage you. Stakes are high, and so are the tensions. I'm betting a lot of people will regret some of the things they've said as of Wednesday morning, if they don't already.

3. Everybody will be nuts for the next few days. It will pass. The
anger of five long years is leaking out under the pressure of next Tuesday.

4. How dare you cast aspersions that baseball bats are dangerous?
I take exception to your cavalier reference to people "swinging wildly" as an attempt to discredit the baseball bat manufacturers.

Or is it that you hate blind people?

WELL???

(Yes, I'm kidding)

5. heh heh, you're so silly. :)
But to the original poster, don't sweat it. It gets that way in here sometimes but it will calm down. Hang in there.

6. Actually, you got attacked for calling someone 'gay'
when you had nothing other than your opinion as evidence. I'm sorry you were offended by that. I spent most of my life standing by silently when I heard people use anti-gay terminology - I refuse to do that anymore.

12. What's wrong with calling somebody gay?
Evidence? What, we need a court of law now?

9. That's the problem with dog-hating macrobiotic Presbyterians like you.
If I keep on insulting random categories of humanity, I'm bound to nail you eventually, you soccer-loving Korean ornithologist scum!

13. It's a message board..
... don't take it too seriously :)

There is a LOT of free-floating anxiety here right now. It will either go away, or get much much worse on Nov 8.

14. Well, how about not posting "there's no homophobia at DU"
and never stating that, as a gay male, you've never experienced it. Then when called on it, you disable your profile. It raises eyebrows.
