Texas school district bans girls' leggings
DALLAS, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A Dallas-area school district has decided high school girls wearing tight leggings with skimpy skirts are too distracting and banned the outfits.

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch district issued the edict and reminded students the shortest a skirt can be is 4 inches above the knee.

Many female students are annoyed with the fashion imposition, The Dallas Morning News reported.

"I think the leggings ban is really dumb because it covers up more of your skin," 17-year-old Shannon Utley told the newspaper.

1. Good. It's a fashion crime.
Seriously, though the school is dumb. There's no real reason to ban leggings, aside from them being a fashion crime.

16. Now, see, I hold that that's a good enough reason.
I've seen enough of those around campus to last me the rest of my life.

7. I don't know what they're talking about
I live & work in the Dallas area, and I don't think I've seen someone wearing leggings since the 80s.

But I'm not in high school and maybe us in out twenties just have more fashion sense.

Also, in the article they referred to cheerleaders wearing leggings, when I was in highschool they wore athletic pants with their skirts while in school.

This whole story is weird.

4. This is so absurd: I got straight A's when braless halter tops were in
If I can do well with that sort of distraction, leggings shouldn't hurt anyone.

:)

yep, I'm an old fart: i mean the FIRST time halters were in.

5. This generation of students in Texas...
Are gonna be pushed just so far, then watch the fun begin.

This is what happens when sex-obsessed fundies take over school boards.

9. Leggings with a mini skirt are incredibly sexy.
I love it when the cool weather comes here and the young women get out their leggings and mini skirts. Even girls with not so-hot-legs look drop-dead sexy.

OK, no one ever accused me of having good fashion sense, but I know sexy when I see it.

It seems that it was the skirt length that's the problem. Girls calling leggings pants, and wearing a mini-skirt with it.

edited to add: I think banning leggings is bad. They should just enforce the skirt length with or without leggings.

14. Welcome back to the 80s
Been there, done that. Remember Fame, Flashdance? Oh yeah, the leg warmers over the leggings, and the big, baggy sweatshirts/sweaters with your shoulder and bra strap showing.

If I remember correctly, Madonna was about the only one who wore the leggings with a mini skirt. It was all the "dancer's look".

None of this is anything new.
