The city we both live in has proposed that a lrge nearly empty building in the westrn part of the downtown section be a halfway house for non violent inmates who are transitioning back into society. Now I think that's a pretty good idea, but this guy was bitching about it because he lives around five blocks away from the place. He was bitching and complaining and I just said, "You know, everybody talks about getting tough on crime, but then it's always, 'not in my backyard'. Where are they supposed to put it?" He weakly said, "How about by your house?" I explained to him that I live almost directly up the hill from that building and besides, there are no buildings that big in my neighborhood. The whole key to my rebuttal to all his bitching was the nimby, "not in my backyard" factor that almost all freepers seem to use. This guy also started bitching about our Union "not doing anything for us." I then had to explain to him that he is getting paid a pretty decent wage, has health insurance, gets holidays off and/or paid for, has a retirement plan, and so on. I asked him if he honestly believed that we'd have that if we didn't have a Union. He stuttered and stammered and finally admitted that we probably wouldn't. This guy also votes republican without fail and listens to limbaugh as well as watching, yep you guessed it, faux. And therefore, he thinks he's well informed. Think I'll tell him about DU. I;ll tell him maybe he can learn something in here. Like truth.
