If someone built a career saying left-handed people were going to hell
And then it came out that that very person was left-handed, I would probably make a lot of "leftie" jokes about him.

Not because I have anything at all against left-handed people, but because he did and made such a damn big deal about it.

Just another point of view for people who are worried that the Foley/Haggard threads here have been examples of anti-gay bigotry on DU; I don't think they were. I think they were simply revelling in the fact that the conservative is often that which he finds most repellant. Even if that isn't in fact repellant except in his own twisted, guilt-ridden mind.

1. I am happy with what is going on with the hypocrites, but that in no
way means I'm disparaging gay people in general. Hopefully, that is realized.
And BTW, I'm left-handed, so watch what you say! :P

2. Hi, babylonsister!
I'm a lefty, too! And I love it. So no 'left-handed remarks'!

I am also old enough to have had teachers and relatives try to change me to be right-handed. My mother, bless her heart, marched down to my school and said they would regret the day they didn't accept me the way I was.
Sure, it was a hassle now and then, but I'm glad the stigma of it is gone.

6. My DH was changed by his righteous nuns, but his sister couldn't
be had. Yes, I've heard the stories of how horrid an affliction it is/was. It's a bear to cut with scissors occasionally, but I've adjusted just fine!

8. Yes, that did happen
And, all kidding aside, it had a very serious effect on a lot of people. It can alter your equilibrium to a point that weakens the immunity system. I have heard that polio struck those kids more often than others.
So sad.

Thanks again, Mom!

7. Ha Ha Very funny
Here is a saying I have on a plaque in my craft room:

"Everyone is born right-handed. Only the gifted overcome it." :hi:

PS-My dog, Jean, shakes left-handed, as well.

10. I like your saying, but there is one thing bad about being
left handed, we use the "right" side of our brains!

But it sure is nice to be a "lefty" in both body and spirit.
