"Only 50 Years Left" for world's ocean fisheries.
There will be virtually nothing left to fish from the seas by the middle of the century if current trends continue, according to a major scientific study.

Stocks have collapsed in nearly one-third of sea fisheries, and the rate of decline is accelerating.

Writing in the journal Science, the international team of researchers says fishery decline is closely tied to a broader loss of marine biodiversity.

1. Too bad no one wants to talk about decreasing world population
Frankly, I think we'd be better off with only one-tenth of the current population on the planet, but I know that's not a popular feeling.

3. there's no political will to address this
decent educated women don't have more than one or two kids, many have no kids, so we are being outbred by the fundies, the mormons, and the other hate groups that promote slavery for women and popping out one baby after another for reasons of gaining more votes and more political power

unfortunately for democracy, the whole concept of one person, one vote, means that we CAN'T address the subject of overpopulation, since only the decent and conscientious people will respond by not breeding and we end up (as we are already seeing in the US) being out-bred by religious hysterics, uneducated, and hate-mongers

there needs to be a law where DNA of all babies is tracked and once you've had one kid, that's it, you are sterilized, i don't care if you are a 12 year old crack whore or if you are Madonna herself

but such a law will never pass because everyone wants THEIR group to keep breeding

even if one nation (china is the great example) passes such a law, it does no good if other countries continue to outbreed the planet like rabbits eating australia

i even saw a program produced in hong kong where hong kong was complaining about zero population growth, italy (we all know) is another overpopulated country making similar complaints

so it's all quite quite hopeless

since i have nothing positive to contribute i should shut up and i think i will, my little note of gloom is not helping anything

2. yeah the real problem is human population
it doesnt matter if you dont eat fish, go vegan, drive a hybrid......

we are rapidly reaching the point where the earth cannot sustain our exponentially growing human population. A lot of people already know this, the majority of the population does not. We will hit a limiting factor, just like every other species, and we will have a massive die off.

enjoy your thursday evening :)
