Thanks to all the DU activists who worked on exposing election fraud
DUers spent many a late night compiling long threads filled with their research on this topic.

Anyone who thinks a DU think tank is a one-woman show has never really been part of one. The greatest threads on DU are the result of collective effort on a good many people's parts.

Thank you to the DUer who first shared the Diebold files with us. Thank you David Allen for figuring out what they meant, for sitting in on their conference calls, for publishing the first BBV book. Thank you Andy for taking on the fight for clean elections, for running for office, for speaking out in the media. Thank you Roxanne, Demactivist and Eloriel for all the research you did. Thank you Al the Cat and the guys from Scoop who got out the word. Thank you Symbolman for the great anti-Diebold flashes you made.

Lots of DUers (you know who you are) will always have the satisfaction of knowing you were the ones who sleuthed out the truth about Diebold. And I am so proud to have been a small part of it.

I want to hug you all and remind you that the HBO film was about you. Just as Andy's spirit hovered over the film, so too did yours. Your fingerprints on the trail of research, the connected dots were all over that film and its final conclusions.

I know I missed folks whose names should have rolled at the end of the credits of HBOs "Hacking Democracy" documentary. It was not intentional. You all deserve to be recognized.

Thankyou Generic Other....

Tis nice to be remembered. Many of those you listed there are not with us anymore... literally in the case of Andy Stephenson.

I am somewhat miffed that we can't see HBO in NZ....

So was it good?

18. story from a lil while back
Went to vote in Lubbock Texas with an old girlfriend. Well to make a long story short, they said she had already voted, which obviously she hadn't, too like 15 mins to fix the problem, then she voted. I regret not going to some voting places and complaining, but its a little late now. So I have some first hand experience with this shit, I want one good reason not to have paper trails?

21. Lets list some more oldtimer DU Election Fraud names from the good old days....
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 03:36 AM by althecat
Back then there really was a fantastic atmosphere in here. Both before and after the posting of the Diebold source. We had some concern trolls even then. Fredda * Cocoa stand out in my mind. But the general atmosphere was that something magical was happening as it was. And to her credit Bev really knew how to play a thread.....

Some more oldtimer names.... more DU heroes past and present...

Pobeka

ParanoidPat (hacked diebold software in his shed, made hackavote CDs? got broken into at some point I think.)

Seemslikeadream (still here.... she made some very well timed CSPAN call ins as I recall)

Papau

Redeagle

bpilgrim (helped majorly with the diebold memos whackamole... built a searchable database of all 15,000 em. This is where the Volusia County -16022 smoking gun was found. See the Volusia Diebold memos here... http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0310/S00211.htm#appendix2 )

punpirate

Junkdrawer

Heddafoil

DEMActivist (Roxanne thanked in the OP) but in case anyone wants to find her in the archives.

Tahitinut

w4rma (still here thankgod)

Madfloridian

Melinda (still here I think?)

DanSpillane (whistleblower... one of the earliest ones if not the earliest one.)

Stephanie (still here too!)

grasswire

nostamj

loudsue (stil here still loud)

(Lots lots more I haven't mentioned... some of the other oldtimers might like to chip in...)

And looking around in the history bins http://www.scoop.co.nz/features/usacoup.html I found a couple more old threads too...

Thanks for filling in the blanks.

All I wanted to see on that documentary was one sentence thanking all these researchers for their efforts.

Sad that their thousands of hours of work on this issue didn't even merit a mention.

37. One other group of DUers I forgot to thank
A LOT of DUers reached deep into their pockets to fund the work. They wrote letters to everyone on the planet trying to draw attention to Diebold's crooked machines. They hosted the files on their own webpages when Diebold tried to close them down.

They were the foot soldiers.

24. Thanks Generic Other
That was one thing that bothered me, no mention of MANY people that put EL Harrisimo in the Limelight, or any credits at the end.. my god I was right HERE when this all went off like a nuke.

Harris even called me personally, wanting to tell me all about it, I'd offered to rake up 50 grand from a millionaire pal and follow her around with a camera, but she never called back, got someone else to do it - which in a way is better, these guys are much better film makers than I.. :)

However I DID tell my Millionaire pal that if he wanted to BLOW the Schwartzenegger election OUT OF THE WATER, all the had to do is hire a freakin LAWYER and let US talk to him.. I was hoping to make a big stink about DIEBOLD, etc THEN, with the Gropenator as a high Profile object, the millionaire wanted to make t-shirts instead. We don't work with him any more :)

I was able to get a few flash works out on this, and am proud to say that Andy kept one of them up on his site until his passing, he liked it that much.

It might be fun to get a list of DU contributors and send them along to Olbermann or HBO or who ever and let them know the truth, unless Harris is still sue-happy. So many people deserve CREDIT (and I don't care if I get any, many MORE people did so much MORE, all I did was a little PR)..

I'd like to share the Memorial Flash I created for Andy's passing, and I can truthfully say that it's as valid as the time it was made, Andy IS INDEED still with us, all around us, and we are helping HIM fulfil his destiny as he worked to help us all.

For Andy with love, from the DU where ever you are:

25. & thankyou too symbolman... you too are definitely one of the heroes
... a DU oldtimer who did his part.

Your tribute to Andy is very moving.

As for PR.... well in a sense that has always been what this entire effort is all about. Once you discover that the machine companies are all owned by GOP activists and that HAVA has just given them $4 billion the rest of the story sort of follows directly by logic. The problem is getting 1. people to beleive you and 2. the media to report this rather obvious fact :) 3. the DNC to do something about it.

30. I appreciate your work and so do so many others
your insights have been magnificent and you've pushed the Media wall back farther than a lot of us could ever hope for.. can't take it apart brick by brick, gotta move the WHOLE WALL :)

We at Takebackthemedia.com were making some pretty good headway, we brought in over a million hits for the flash attack ads the first year alone, and a Terrabyte within three years, so I was hoping we could kick some ass on the Electronic Voting scene. We opted to make a film as well, which got caught up in funding and other problems, but we DID get to interview many pros, stars, politicians, attended congressional meetings, etc - I even made a slew of animations for it which I thought would kick it over the top :)

That film took up so much of our time that TBTM fell to the wayside, and we've not kept up the power we had as a result - and have pursued other avenues since, though we have many friends in the Progressive scene, and will perhaps be counting on them in new ventures. We've moved into the Environmental scene, another Progressive issue that I think is of PRIME importance as well.

But VOTING IS the number one issue, we can't save the environment IF we can't CHOOSE responsible politicians or route the bastards polluting the whole planet..

So anything I can do I will do in that regard.

Meanwhile I am SO thankful for those who have been continuing to fight this fight, and all those who came before and did more work than I could ever imagine, and that would be you Althecat, a voice that WILL not be silenced, along with so many more.

Then there's Harris, the voice that I wish would be SILENT on some occasions, and one that IS Silent when it comes to SHARING HOW Many people contributed.. I still feel that Andy was used in this film in some fashion to cut the bad taste in many mouths, or to keep the ROAR to a dull one, but that's just me. I loved the man, and don't want to see his REPUTATION Utilized by those who WOULD do such a thing. Makes me sick.

Odd that the film didn't mention the QUI TAM deal either, where Harris made a nice chunk of change, along with her gun totin' pal.. wasn't the Legal case they mentioned in the film the one that filled HER POCKETS as well?

Sorry, it's late here and I'm tired so I'm just wondering out loud.

Just wanted to thank you for thanking me while thanking others, better go get some sleep instead :)

Love them OLD TIMERS, THIS is when the HISTORY shows what IS important, eh? Don't need Winston Smith working magic or we get NOWHERE, eh? :)

32. A testament to Andy's strength that I saw with my own eyes...
Andy stayed with me right before he had his surgery at Johns Hopkins. I could tell he was sick, he was in pain. Yet he somehow managed to have me running him around town getting materiel together for a teaching session he was going to do in Columbus followed by an impromptu DU meetup I'd put together. Even though he was sick, and tired and in physical agony, he had strength. More strength than anyone I've ever met. He could still smile...and he brought smiles to all of us. He provided us with inspiration, and hope, and the knowledge that it only takes one person to make a difference. That one person could organize and train others to monitor our elections, and to fight for the essential democracy that makes the USA the great country that it is.

Andy Stephenson.
One Man.
A Great Man.

We're still working very very hard.

Here's something you can do: get admin to set up a high-level forum on the 2006 elections, so we don't have to post everything in GD. Because since they took away our 2004 forum, it's harder to get our work seen even on DU.

49. Sorry, I only thanked those oldtimers that the film forgot to acknowledge
But of course you are right. Many continue to carry the torch. And we should all honor their commitment.

The local activists, the poll watchers, the vote counters, the tech people, the publicists. Every step of the process was an incredible group effort. I don't think I've ever witnessed anything quite like it.

So yes emlev, I wouldn't want to miss thanking you all past and present for your efforts. For you did this not to earn some qui tam money, but because you didn't want to give up your country without a fight.

I salute you.

50. And please remember Sherole Eaton
Although she didn't post here, her heroic effort did not go unnoticed by DUers. She is not doing well, the reality of having been fired, and broke, I am afraid has gotten her quite down. Please keep her in your thoughts.

I still cannot figure out why she hasn't been recognized by the top brass of the party. After all she was asked to cheat, refused, came forward and then was fired. Certainly there should be a substantial position open within the party for her or if nothing else, a medal of honor.

Kudo's to all who worked for the cause, it is appreciated and will be appreciated by many.

53. Folks, we have been part of something critical
in the history of our democracy.

We fought, and many still fight, and we have taken the issue from obscurity to the front page.

Thanks to Skinner and Co. for DU, for patience, for taking lots of abuse and staying committed to providing a forum for us to meet.

Many of you have sacrificed so much for this country, time, money, stomach lining, even the last days of their lives.
