The Rising Dem Wave May Push Bush To Start Another War.... |
|
Put yourself in Bush's position, after the midterm election is over you are basically powerless to do anything else legislatively except veto bills. Judicial appointments are dead on arrival.
Your best hope to hold onto Congressional power is to tie everything up with lawsuits and force the Courts to sort out the winners. However, nothing will be accomplished in Congress in such a chaotic environment.
Foreign policy is the only playground still open to him. So he recalls what it was like to travel around the country and declare himself 'a war president.' This is a dangerous scenario, especially when you add in the influence of the NeoCons who see their opportunities shrinking as well.
The bigger the Democratic Wave, the more desperate Bush will become....

4. A war may be started b/c of 'accidental engagements' .... |
|
... we are already in position, it would not take much to cause an escalation of such an event to the status of 'war.' In that event, I doubt Bush (and his unitary theory of Executive Power) would ever darken the doors of Congress to ask for permission to do anything militarily.

7. Look at it this way: he's going to try to start another War, regardless. |
|
Wes Clark has been going around the Country campaigning for Dems, and he's standing up there and telling crowds of people that Bush is going to attack Iran. Actually, he says there is about a 70 percent chance that Bush will attack Iran. We're talking about a Four Star General; he's not basing his judgment on reading tea leaves or hanging out on DU. The man has contacts at the highest levels of the Pentagon, and if he tells you that Bush is going to attack Iran you'd be a fool not to believe it.
So... there's only one option: if Dems win, Bush attacks Iran; if Dems lose, Bush attacks Iran. One way that outcome can possibly be avoided is if Dems win both houses of Congress and then inform Bush that if he attacks Iran without authorization he will be impeached, or by raising such a public stink about authorization that Bush feels politically constrained. OTOH, as a lame duck, he might not feel all that constrained, especially if Repubs hang on to the Senate. And, after all, Republican control of Congress did not stop Clinton from bombing Iraq.
Just how crazy is George W. Bush?
Answer: Batshit.

8. Sy Hersh and Scott Ritter Also Agree w/Clark's Assessment.... |
|
... and they also are in a position to "know" more than the average talking head, since both have sources deep within the Pentagon/Military establishment.
I think Bush is so stubborn and tolerates so little dissent from the yes-men who surround him, he will listen to the NeoCons and precipitate a 'conflict' which would likely ratchet up to 'war' status almost immediately.
I truly believe he will see a Democratic Wave that washes out Republican Majorities as the sign that he needs to take this action immediately.
