Has it ever failed? Swaggart, Foley, Jim and Tammy Baker, every blowhard ever to blow has made a huge public deal about family values and mom and apple pie is either a pervert or a thief or a liar or worse, and reverend Ted Haggard is a prime example ain't he?

1. Years ago the head of our church here was a real pain in the ass.

Nothing, and I mean nothing that the parishoners wanted, if it didn't meet the approval of a couple of his select advisers (who were some real whack jobs), got done. And he was very nasty about any opposition to his stances. He covered for Father Daniel Herek (a well known pedophile) until he couldn't hide the truth anymore, he fired our favorite principal who just did his best to try to help the kids, he ranted and raved at people. He was a nut job.

The swat team finally had to take him out of St. Peter's after he barricaded himself in with a handgun.

Don't know what ever happened to Fr. Chiurej (or however it was spelled). I doubt though that where ever he went was able to iron out all his kinks.

edit: To add the school was something else too. He hired this one crazed woman one time that was slapping and scratching and choking the kids. The stupid woman was dumb enough to do it on the day of a Parents/Teachers night. My kid Bianca came home with a handprint across her face. I had to go around to the othe parents in the class and we talked to the kids. They were all getting treated like that. So needless to say, old Ms. Croker wasn't there the next day.

We had a scandal, and a major one at that, a week.

11. I've always said this

The people who need religion the most seem to have something wrong with them inside. I'm not taking about Haggard being gay. Closet cases are something else. They believe they're evil because of the way they were made (and if they believe in god like they say they do, they would accept themselves as one of god's creations.) because it's been drilled into their heads that gay=evil. I feel for them, but wish they'd relize they have been sold a bill of goods and aren't inherently evil.

More generally, though, I'm talking about the people like Swaggart and his ilk, or the well published cases of church sexual abuse... it just seems like the people who have something wrong inside and know it search for religion to fix it. They might be better off (and the rest of us, too) if they saw a shrink or two instead.

Makes the fall even more entertaining to watch when the same people who have been lecturing the rest of us for years, take a big 'ole nose dive off that pedestal they climbed up onto. Pass the popcorn!

That's probably going to be taken wrong, but if you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

20. Boy, do I agree...

...I am thinking about one of my best gal pals who lost her mom just about 2 years ago now. Her parents had been married 54 years and the dad hooked up with a religous nut right after the mom passed on and married the nut about six months after the death of his wife. This nut ~~ who loves to pray in public and praise Jesus and spends more time in church than anywhere else ~~ has torn this family to pieces. She puts on phony illnesses and gets rushed to ERs on a regular basis ~~ uses this as a hook to scare the old man that this wife might die, too. The bitch has filed TROs against members of my pal's family ~~ and lied her ass off to get one order of protection ~~ luckily she lost in court on 99% of what she wanted. The nut even went so far as to make a false police report and have one family member arrested. I cannot even begin to tell the lies she has told ~~ starting from Day One that she had any contact with my pal's family. The nut now has the home where she and the dad live covered with wrought iron bars at the windows and the doors and huge motion activated security lights all over the place...plus a 60-pound guard dog on duty with warning signs posted about this beast. And, of course, she changed the phone number and has it unlisted and refuses to give it out to long-time friends and family members.

Bottom line: The nut now has all of the assets in HER name ONLY. She did not have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of until she married my pal's dad. She is considerably younger than my pal's dad and I would say when he passes, she is going to be well-fixed. And, to top it all off, the bitch just LOVES Prez Junior. Prays for the asshole everyday.

And, don't bother to tell me about going to the elder abuse agencies ~~ been there and done that. Because the dad is fed, medicated, clean and has no bruises on him....nothing came of about 10 complaints filed from family members and long time friends.

I just consider that relationship to be a fact of life these days. I see some holier-than-thou asshat poking his nose into someone else's bedroom and I figure, "must be closeted, a pedophile, or have some other sexual fetish that he's ashamed of and which he pays money to indulge in on the weekends".

The worst religion majors, all pious and pretending, were the worst offenders, usually. It just didn't come out until much later.

One guy, who's a pastor in southern Ohio, raped a girl at senior high camp the summer before they went off to college (both he and his victim came to our college), and the college knew about it but believed his crap about not being really born-again until after the crime. He became of the most visible of the religion majors, a major enforcer for Student Development of all the handbook rules, and a common sight at chapel. He was slimy and icky, and he would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and that's before I knew about the rape.
