Mike Jones, the man who outed republican Rev. Ted Haggard.

http://breakingnews.redstate.com/blogs/jimkouri/2006/nov/03/top_evangelical_leader_steps_down_amidst_allegations_of_gay_sex

Mike Jones, a so-called male escort, publicly announced that he has had a homosexual relationship with the top religious leader. He claims that during some of their time together they used metamphetamine, as well. Sex and drugs -- and homosexuality -- once again may have taken their toll.

But Jones does backup his statement regarding his sexual liaisons with the Christian leader with an audiotape he recorded of Haggard and him explicitly discussing sex. Jones claims he did this because of Haggard's ongoing battle against same-sex marriage. Jones says he wanted to "out" the church leader as a homosexual and a hypocrite.

What should delight the secular-humanists within the media is the fact that Haggard is an outspoken critic of gay marriage and drug abuse. And once the mainstream media get wind of this story, it will be used to connect the GOP with an evangelical leader who's fallen from grace.

At first, the respected Haggard told KUSA TV in Colorado Springs on Wednesday night that Jones' accusations are false. But on Thursday, Haggard announced, "I could not continue to minister under the cloud created by the accusations," and thus he threw in the towel.

-----------------

So, look how this extremely powerful man was destroyed by his own monstrous hypocricy, all it took
was someone outing his hypocritical ass. I know there are pros and cons on outing, but let's face
it, when an asshole like this is brought down from his lofty heights, it's a good thing.

1. Absolutely 100% agreed.
If Mike Jones were sleeping with, say, Rev. Barry Lynn or Rev. Mel White, he certainly wouldn't have "outed" them. Why? Because they're not hypocrites building a career upon condemning what they themselves are doing.

And it's not like homosexuality was just a peripheral issue for Haggard. It was his cause celebre and the centerpiece of his political machine.

So, yes...

This is unequivocally a good thing that Mike has done.

I just hope that Mike isn't lying.

It would just shatter my faith in the archetypal "Hooker With A Heart Of Gold."

2. I seriously doubt
such a powerful man would step down so quickly if this story wasn't true.

Very similiar to the Mark Foley situation.

4. I agree but I am also suspicious
the using meth is a pretty loaded accusation. It sounds like an over-reach IMHO. And the fact that he has refused to let anywon hear the tape also raises an eyebrow.
aggard dis step down from NAE and stepped aside at his church so perhaps there is truth to the whole thing.... but something about this gives me pause.

As a Christian....I could deal with the homosexuality issue...but a pastor using meth....that would make me livid. I guess because sex is sex and it is what it is...but doing hard drugs would expose him as being an absolut charltan with no moral center,

5. I think the drug usage among this group
is a bigger problem then most people realize.

We know about Bush's admitted abuse and it's a national joke that Laura is a xanax zombie. Why should it be a surprise when it turns out that the rest of this crew uses drugs too?

7. I am wrestling with that.question
I am not offended that hei is gay or that he paid for gay ses. I can even navigate my way through the hypocrisy of what he says in public. But somehow using meth crosses a line regarding pastors and their responsibility to their flocks. It is not about indiscretions it is about a moral compass. I can undertand getting addicted to pain killers or booze or gay sex. I don't understand hard core illegal drugs.

Now the interim pastor came out last night ans said that the accusations were partially true. So we will see how this shakes out but while he is going to need to step down over the gay sex thing...... He needs to be drawn and quartered over the meth issue if true.

EIther way it is sad and pathetic. And I see nothing to be giddy about.

8. The local news station covering this here in Denver, has the tapes and
has an "expert" analyzing the contents to see if the voice on the tapes matches recordings of Haggard speaking.

They indicated, this morning, that the tapes are matching up with Haggard's voice. Maybe, once they've verified as much as possible, the authenticity of the tapes, we'll get to hear them.

3. To my way of thinking, it's all about the hypocrisy, not the gay angle. nt

6. It's beyond hypocrisy
because it's guys like Haggard that promote the fundie anti-gay agenda.

This is like having a Jew maintain the gas chambers.

9. Exposing all hypocrisy at the highest levels (Haggard had weekly access to WH) of
government, snaring every hypocrite, exposing every hypocritical act, are duties of citizenship, patriotic acts if performed by we the people and especially the fourth estate would largely keep us out of the plethora of messes and disasters now upon us. :patriot:
