Obviously I knew the whole situation with Diebold was bad, but holy criminy, this was still a major eye-opener. Any person who can watch that and still try to claim we witnessed a fair and honest GOP win in 2004 is so totally saturated with Kool-Aid as to be beyond redemption. Stunning, shocking, scary, maddening. These machines were designed, the whole HAVA specifically written, imho, with the express purpose of election stealing. With amateur-level programming, built it entry points for hackers, and a willing contingent of lost Americans who've put doctrine and zealotry before Constitution, these machines simply have no place in our democracy. November 8, no matter what the outcome of this election, everybody, left and right, must work towards eliminating them from the landscape.

And, I wasn't involved in the Andy situation, but it was very cool to finally see the man for real, as a tireless advocate and not a caricature. It was a very moving tribute, and it made me very proud to "know" all you DUers. Let the right continue to slime and smear and hate. Andy proved many things about vote fraud, but he proved much more about the "compassion" of the right wing, and what makes Democrats so different from them. Awesome, awesome, documentary.

You could always download a bittorrent client like Azureus, then go to a bittorrent search site like Torrentspy, and find it there in a day or so. Maybe as early as today. I'm gonna upload and start seeding one soon.

I'm not big on piracy, but i view an issue like this as public domain because it has a direct effect on everyones lives.

23. I agree
It has national eletion implications. Fair use says that if it is intended for educational purposes and is not for profit, then it is OK. It will be on my site and free as all videos on my site are. Anytime a producer or author asks for material to be removed, I do so promptly. Until that time I get any informational video that I can up there for as many people to see as possible.

4. Just finished watching...
It was a really good compilation of everything we've been talking about and would be easily understood by anyone who took the time to watch it. I notice it's going to play a few more times between now and Tuesday. Here's hoping it garners more viewers.

5. If only "they" would watch it.
Them being anyone who has ever uttered the ridiculous "we were out-campaigned" meme.

One thing left hanging, that almost seemed to call for more probing...the segment about JK conceding the race. It almost seemed to start making a case that something was fishy, but didn't quite "go there."

7. didn't see the movie yet
--know enough about it not to need convincing but looking forward to seeing it at some point. Glad Diebold couldn't stop it before the elections.

There is just about nothing that makes me angrier than the conspiracy to thwart free and democratic elections in this country.

WHY should we have to fight tooth and nail just for the right to VOTE --without harrassment, without machines that lose & alter votes, without having to wade through a cesspool of "dirty tricks" (ie. crimes) every election?

WHY are we worrying about THIS, along with everything else?!?

Short answer--the country is drowning in greed and corruption. The ends always justify the means....abuses are tolerated and exploited.

:grr: we must root out this corruption from the ground up :grr:

9. I watched it, too, and was so disturbed by it that I couldn't sleep.
I knew the 2000 and 2004 elections weren't clean but **wow** this film really took my breath away. Its much worse than I could have imagined. Every American needs to see this film. I wonder if this will ever be released on DVD?

13. I could...finally!
Tried to watch is objectively and was wowed. Hubs too -- and he had no idea about 80% of it-- I missed the part where AS talked about his "legacy" --thank goodness--so no tears last night.

Hubs said at 5 this a.m. "That's the most important film I've ever seen."

The snowball is rolling. My opinions of Bev, her evident personality disorder and poor management/biz skills are better left for another thread. The film was, I think, what Andy wanted. Finally.

11. Did it talk about HAVA being planned BEFORE 2000 election?
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 10:00 AM by calipendence
I heard that revelation when Bev Harris, Paul Lehto, Jim Lampley, Ed Asner, etc. were talking to us at a town hall meeting last week here in San Diego.

Everyone thinking the conventional wisdom was that HAVA was a response to the problems of "hanging chads", etc. that was in the 2000 election might want to rethink things.

I think it was Mr. Lehto, but it could have been another panel member, that said that there are congressional records of HAVA being discussed before the 2000 election. Now what form it was in, and if it was in the blatant "sell out to the voting machines" mode that it is now is probably another question to get an answer to as well.

But hearing that, I almost wondered if perhaps the whole thing in Florida was "planned" and even more "theater" to help them justify what they wanted to do with HAVA, much like some "conspiracy theorists" feel that 9/11 was all about setting us up to embark on the other neocon dreams of invading Iraq and invoking the Patriot Act.

Since Bev Harris was there and might have mentioned this, I was wondering if this was covered in the movie. Still looking forward to getting my hands on a copy soon.

20. "Perhaps the whole thing in Florida was 'planned'..."
I've been saying this for years. They needed a debacle like Florida in order to force and "emergency" bill through (which just happened to exclusively benefit their GOP buddies) which would enable to "win" the second term. Down the memory hole have gone several stories released prior to 2006 by demographers pointing to the shifting US population which would virtually assure a democratic majority of voters for decades to come. I'm not sure what search terms you'd use at The Google, but the reports are out there. This was their last best chance to enact the PNAC doctrine. If they couldn't get Clinton to go in, there'd be no hope if another dem took office.

I really have no doubt about it, when you look back through ALL the chain of events, not just starting with the first hanging chad.

25. A kick and a correction...
"Down the memory hole have gone several stories released prior to 2006 by demographers pointing to the shifting US population which would virtually assure a democratic majority of voters for decades to come."

That should read 2000, not 2006.

And taking a lot of bullshit for our discussion.

Guess it takes a movie to get people's attention? Now why didn't we think of that?

I'm still waiting to see "Kill The Messenger" and Sibel Edmonds talking more about what Hastert and this administration has been pulling. Unfortunately it is only showing overseas now until next year. I think they're missing their window though. Hastert might be out of office by the time they show it here!
