I smell an Internet Crackdown Coming... (Part II)
The other day, I posted about rumbling from Cheney and Chertoff about the 'dangers of the internet'.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2526365

Here are two more reports that make me think we're going to see serious Internet restrictions:

U.S. Shuts Web Site That Contained Nuclear Details
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/03/AR2006110300019.html
(I think this was a plant, so Rove et al can point to the 'inherent vulnerabilities of an open, unsecure system')

Web creator warns of dangers

The creator of the world wide web is to highlight uses and abuses of the internet including its role in the terror attacks on the World Trade Center.

Timothy McVeigh didn't need the Internet. The U.S. Army taught him everything he needed to know...

4. It smells vaguely of sulphur to me
I would be totally unsurprised if the Junta engineered this to illustrate the "dangers" of free speech on the web, and use it as an excuse to "crack down" on that free speech in advance of the 2008 coup.

2. Is the Pentagon Defense Intelligence Agency
Edited on Fri Nov-03-06 09:49 AM by PATRICK
the same crony creature that the WH created to replace the Pentagon's own traditional one? That is the group who put up the actual site and the idiots who asked for some this stuff to be made known goes back to the otherwise secretive GOP Congress and Black-ops Negroponte.

3. Don't let them lie about it.
Just like with the phones, where terrorists wouldn't be on the same network this administration is illegally tapping, thus invalidating their primary "reason" for doing it, the terrorists would also be very unlikely to do anything important to their cause on the Internet. It isn't secure enough, and it's too easy to track. Don't let these bastards use terrorists as an excuse to put a wall around our First Amendment rights.
